2015 Goldwing Audio Comfort (Picture of the front view of the bike down below). The bike has the Traxxion Dynamics suspension upgrade.
I have been using a Shark Evoline helmet for at least 10 years (or so it seems). Due to its age, I recently purchased a new one (same size as original Medium) and wore it a few times but found it was too tight. My wife needed a new helmet and she like it so I gave it to her and I purchased a "large" version of the Shark Evo One 2 Helmet. I have replaced the cheek pads in the new helmet.
During a recent ride, I was distressed as to the amount of wind buffeting I was getting with this helmet. So, yesterday I went back to the 10 year old helmet and the wind buffeting seemed to be the same so I figured I could eliminate the helmet design as an issue. Although the two helmets (old and new) are similar they are not exact in design.
I also recently rode a few hundred miles on my 2007 ST1300 with the same helmet (the new one) and it was pretty quiet. So, I tend to eliminate the helmet as the main issue with wind noise.
I ride with the stock windscreen at the lowest level (in the picture below I think it is up one level). I recently experimented with the windscreen at various levels and found no changes in wind noise and the buffeting I was getting.
I also ride with earphones (in the ear speakers that provide some outside noise reduction). I have considered shifting to some older earplugs (no audio) to see if they would reduce the noise and the noise I am hearing is being transferred.
So, I am considering replacing the stock windscreen if I can find enough evidence that another type will reduce the buffeting noise I am getting.
I have done a short search on YouTube looking for some videos that might show the reduction but did not find any.
I have also considered adding the Baker Wind Wings but mounting the under the mirror versions might not work with the current PIAA lights there.
I am looking for any suggestions on what steps I might take to reduce the noise.
Also, is it possible the Traxxioin suspension upgrade can add to the noise I am feeling since the roads here in SC are darn rough and I do get lots of "bounce". It sometimes seems that this bounce is transmitted to the helmet. And yes I have considered that the helmet might be a little lose due to the size change but since it was very quiet on the ST, I tend to discount that idea.
Thanks.
