I rec’d an email this evening from Honda Powersports stating the Trip planner website will be taken down May 31st. What the bloody hell is this??

Do any of us use a different trip planning website that lets us load trips into the Goldwing nav system?

I posted the same thing. Honda has not updated Trip Planner for years. First they dropped the Honda Rider Club, which was full of good info, when they moved production to Japan
I think they want you to use Rever

Good 411, I downloaded my gpx files of rides when I was using the Honda trip planner with the excitement of the new GW DCTs came about. I have since found a better trip planner, but it was nice to download some of those earlier rides I saved on HTP.
Never used it.. like the GPS it was substandard. I won't miss it :). Honda made a big mistake with the whole GPS systems on this bike. That being said, it feels like Garmin is heading down the web services vs stand alone app as well.....
I found the Honda Trip Planner fairly useless and better off with Google Maps or any of a dozen free map systems. I wasted a lot of time with it and then gave up.

Could not even find my way out of a wet paper bag with it.

I used it for my trip to Alaska and back. It worked fine. Now I've got to try something else. Maybe rever.

My experience with it has been mostly positive.

I used it when I first got my 2015 with Nav. Worked okay but occasionally would get messed up. I learned to be patient having to scroll in after every waypoint positioning, and it pasting off the road. We planned a road trip, in a car, and figured it might be easier with a gps so I invested in a Zumo XT and learned basecamp. I know now just how inferior and limited HTP is. I say good bye and will not miss it, especially where you can no longer down load a route into it.
Honda stated that they were canceling this one time before, unfortunately I was on a bike trip to NC when this happened. Luckily I loaded my whole trip on the bike prior to leaving. I wanted to make an adjustment on a ride I was gong to do and the program was shut off. Had to ride what I brought. No big deal, it was fun but had to do it another day because of road work that was under way that day. It was just infuriating that I could not get into the program and do what I wanted at the time.
My experience with it has been mostly positive.
My experience with HTP was mostly positive as well. I moved on to Road Trip Planner [uses Apple Maps for its source data] when it appeared Honda was planning to execute Trip Planner a year or two ago.

Garmin just released an update to their Basecamp March 23, 2023. It's on another thread - and it isn't a web service (I'm so glad!) but a stand alone application.

To clarify, I use these phone apps for recording the trips rather than routing. I used Rever on a trip last year and it kept crashing. I switched to Scenic mid trip and haven't looked back.

I have no issues with the onboard GPS and was very successful in route planning with Honda Trip Planner. I will also want a replacement that I can plot out a whole trip with.

I searched for "Road Trip Planner" and got lots of other apps, but nothing with that title. Can you send a link?
I spoke with a Honda Powersports representative this morning. She was, of course, very polite. But the answers were:

1. Honda is discontinuing Trip Planner and has no plans for a replacement,

2. Honda does not have a relationship with Rever, but you can try their service.

So, I now have a $25,000+ motorcycle that has a nave system that can’t be used except for simple Point A to Point B things.

I bought this premium motorcycle in part because I take long rides all over the US and Canada and need to lay out several day’s routes, stops, etc. on my PC before leaving home, then load them into the ‘Wing’s nav system. I can no longer do that. And I’m not going to rely on a cell phone based system because I travel many places that don’t have cell phone service.

So now i’ll have to burn $600 or more on a Tom Tom Go, figure out how to mount in on a ‘Wing’s oddly shaped handle bars, and reacquaint myself with Basecamp.

Say what you will about Harley Davidson, my experience with my Ultra Limited and its ride planner and nav system were flawless.

I tried Basecamp for a while but did not have the patience to it learn properly. I clicked on kurgiver and it worked pretty well for a trip I planned in June. I like that you can modify the route according to how twisty you want the route to be. BUT, I think when I download it into the Honda Navi the GPS may reroute some legs if I haven't forced the route by adding waypoints. Kurgiver seems to only download routes as opposed to tracks which should then not be re-calculated by the GPS. I confess I am a bit fuzzy on tracks vs. routes, so I'm not sure about that.
It's frustrating that a GPS made for motorcycles would insist on calculating a route as if you are a delivery driver looking for the quickest way to a destination. Honda isn't the only one to treat navs this way. My old BMW-branded GPS did the same thing and it is just a rebranded Garmin.
I'm thinking at this point since I have a list of the roads I plan to ride on the trip, the GPS may end up being just a moving map display. I seem to recall a way to force it to detour off a GPS-calculated route so that may be a way to hack the system and ride the route I want with turn-by-turn and eta from the GPS. Not optimal but it's what it is. No use complaining.

You don't have to invest in a separate GPS for using the navi on your bike. As I previously posted, there have been many posts by others using alternate apps other than HTP. You might want to check some listed in this post.

So I just went and played with Harley Ride Planner and I like it. It is easy to start a trip, drag the route to another road, add waypoints, etc. I saved the trip, exported it to a gpx file and imported it on the Goldwing. All good. I think I like it better than Honda Trip Planner.

I find it interesting that Honda is creating a reason for me to spend time on a Harley-Davidson website.

Right? When I owned an Ultra the trip planning was easy and reliable. Maybe it’s time for another one. Heh.
Same here, I found the Harley Davidson Trip Planner very similar to Honda. Imported my trips with no problems.
