MG_WINGS, What are you doing up at 2:30 AM?
The connectors are different. But they all require the lifting OR the
presing of a tab(release). Therefore you must be able to see the device.
There seen to be 4 types. Press or lift device on the female.
OR press or lift device on the male. A small or medium screw driver
works for me. Be careful as you can pull the wires out. Dont ask how I know. CAREFULLY galewing

This one got me too.
The first time I unhooked the wire harness from the little holder that secures it to the bike (I left the holder attached to the bike)
Then the two halves of the connecter came right apart.

The next time I did it a little different and got really frustrated.
I took the little holder OFF the bike with the harness.
Then, try as I might, the two halves of the harness would not come apart.
I was going nuts since it came apart so easily the day before.
:?

It's the little holder that attaches the wire harness to the bike ... if that stays with wire harness then you'll never get the two halves apart.
Leave that part on the bike.

Dennis ........ are you saying that it is easier to leave the white part attached to the bike and just unplug the harness to acess these wires?

MG,
no ... the wire harness will never come apart if you do that.
the damn thing is like a rubix cube.

The two halves of the wire harness attach to a little "post" looking thing to keep it all from rattling around in there.

The "key" is that little post thing.

IF you LIFT the wire harness connection OFF the post, then the two halves of the wire harness will easily come apart.

BUT ... If you lift the whole POST off the bike (very easy) and leave it attached to the wire harness then the two halves of the wire harness will NEVER come apart ...

hope that helps?

And the post thing is the key that locks it together.
I found it by the same method on my 07.
