Lots of Wings and many many more Honda's there every year. It's a motorcycle party now, not Harley only for years now.
True. A lot of Harley's for sure (~90%+). But you'll see more "other" bikes than you might imagine. Goldwing's, Victory's, Indians and some Spyders are all certainly represented. What I've NOT seen the two times I went, were squids on sport bikes. What really stands out is the shear number of motorcycles everywhere!

I don't need to ride all the way to Sturgis, there is a perfectly good Zoo in my city with plenty of parking, bathrooms and nearby uncrowded places to eat without lose wild monkeys running around.

It's been awhile but I've gone eight different years, never know just might go again this year. Seems like lots of folks get the impression it's a kinda violent place but honestly I've never seen any violence, mostly just friendly folks checking things out, they bring in tons of police to keep an eye on things during Sturgis bike week.

Well, I have been fortunate enough to have attended the Sturgis rally every year since 1987 ,,,,,

It is NOT just a Harley rally, but for those Wingers who might be intimidated by all of the Harleys or just don't like being around them, it is probably not your cup of tea ,,,,

For those of you who enjoy the sights and sounds of the Black Hills this time of year, and comradery with other motorcyclists, the STURGIS RALLY is like no other ,,,,,

I also think it is a great alternative for those who cant make it down to Wing Ding in TX this year ,,,,,,

Ah yes the sights and sounds(?) If you're referring to the motorcycle "sounds", no thanks. If I go there it would be to enjoy the natural beauty and serenity and nothing else. That's why I have a quiet bike.

Yep, the full throttle saloon. They rebuilt it about 10 miles out of town, took over the broke spoke. I don't think that was a good location.

I am leaving aug. 3rd for Sturgis on the NC 700, 5 wings and a Ultra.

Yep, 17th rally for me. Recommend the Poodle and noodles at the road klll café. The Black Hills have some of the most beautiful scenery and most pristine roads in the US. Ride during the day, check the freak parade at night. Weather and attendance can be as extreme as the bikes and people. Riding and fun with my buddies. No doubt, fun will be had by all.

I went in 2010 and again in 2015. I will be going again but not this year. I had a blast! :)

The good thing about Sturgis is that there is bound to be an outlaw Goldwing motorcycle club you can hang around with...remember, you
'll be a 'hang-around' first, then a 'prospect'...hope you can make to full member by the end of the rally.

Well, things do move faster on a Wing than on a Harley

If I was retired or had lots of vacation time, it would be fun to go during the rally and spend a week people watching.

As it is, my gut tells me that going to a place with 500K other bikers would just make everything more crowded and expensive and the rides wouldn't be as fun with so many bikes on the road.

I went and rode the Black Hills last year in June and it was great, so I agree the riding around there is very nice. But...I just don't see myself going to the rally until I retire and by then I'll probably be too old to enjoy it.

Truth be told, I'm probably already too old to enjoy Sturgis. I haven't been to the State Fair in Texas for a decade because I don't like crowds.

Dave,
You 'll know you are too old for Sturgis if you see a shirtless woman on TV and you keep on flicking channels till you get to the SportsCenter channel...at that point, there is no use in going to Sturgis.

I had to go one time during Sturgis. We lucked out and rented a room from a lady that lived 2 blocks from main street for $40.00 a night. This was back in 2009. We walked didn't have to ride and try and find a parking place. I think most of the problems occur at the campgrounds outside of town. Location for riding was excellent, just bumper to bumper wherever we rode. Oh yes don't forget no panty Wednesdays. LOL

I was going to write that down but I should be ok. I don't wear panties on any day.
