I got married in 1977 at the tender age of 22. I had a Triumph Bonneville 650 at the time that I'd bought brand new when I was 16. My beautiful fiance had never been a fan of bikes at all. She'd had a bad experience approached me and asked that I get rid of that bike before we got married. I really liked my Triumph but I loved her so I did what she asked and got rid of my Triumph....and traded it in on my first Goldwing!

Not exactly what she had in mind, to say the least. :D

Gary, you must be the same age as me. I got married two years before you did, at the even 'tenderer' age of 20! Didn't get my first bike, a '76 Wing, until ten years later.

Got my 1st wing about 10 years ago after giving up scoots for 12 years due to back surgery, marriage, etc. Decided one day I want a bike and got a sweet deal on a 1998 GL1500 Candy red color. Put about 25K miles on her and sold it for more than I bought it for. Never forgot how nice a bike the wings were and that swayed my decision to by an 06 wing this year.

The last year of the ol' GL1000

I just got commisioned into the US Navy...and traded my CB550K in on the last GL1000 the dealer had...nekkid bike...but OHHHHH so smooth...and it went into the corners much better than the 550!!! Hated to see her go, but it "turned into" a ski boat when I was an instructor in P'cola...

Oh..I was "only" 22 when I bought it!

Brett

Getting my second wing at 48....

I got married at the "tenderest" age of 18 in 1978. Bought a 1979 GL1000 with Pacifico fairing and Vetter luggage in the spring of '79. Rode it until '83 and sold it. 2 kids, need I say more! My wonderful wife promised I could get another Wing when the kids were grown. We did ride off road as a family for several years with two wheels and Quads.
Our youngest graduated in 2004 and Momma said OK it's time for your new Wing. Went and picked out a brand new '03. Been married 28 years now and couldn't ask for a sweeter woman.

I have had a number of bikes, the first being a 1969 Hodaka Ace 100 (used, in 1975), a 1974 Honda CB350 Four (used, in 1978), a 1981 Yamaha 650 Maxim (New), a 1983 Honda Nighthawk (New), a 1984 Honda GL1200I GoldWing Interstate (New - at age 25), a 1988 Honda GL1800, a 1977 Honda GL1000 (used, in 1994) which was a project bike. Our latest Wing is a 2005 GL1800 purchased in April of 2005.

I was the youngest member owning a Wing in San Diego Touring Society and the GWRRA chapter I was with in San Diego way back in 1984.

I got my first Wing when I was 62. Still am 62. Not sure why I bought one, mostly out of curiosity but I like it a lot, as I do my FJR.

Maybe one day I will get an adventure bike, like a V-Strom. Getting kind of spoiled with the GPS, and other luxury features though and the Wing hauls ass, even with the camper on the back.

I bought my first Goldwing, an 81' Interstate, at the age of 18 with my paper route money. I'm serious....no really.....honestly....I was 18 year-old paperboy. Why are you all laughing? I'm not making this up....people always react this way when I tell them I was barely out of high school when I started riding an 'old man's bike'. :banghead: I'm 37 now, and am on my 3rd Goldwing, an 06' Cabernet Red. Just spent a week out in Death Valley. Blissful riding.

I bought a new 83 for $6000 when I was 30. It was my twelfth bike. The first day that I went out with my soon to be wife it was 36 degrees and snowing. I suited her up and we rode 300 miles, got rather drunk too. It was her first time on a bike. I figured if she didn’t like it I would get away from her. She is still here and likes to ride even more than I do.

I got my GL1000 in '75. Just 28 years old!
It came out from underneath a Chrysler Valiant. Had the right hand cylinder head wiped off it.
Got a new frame and lots of parts, I then spent a year of my spare time restoring it to pristine condition.

I was about 20 years old and in college. I bought a used 1976 GL1000. The bike had a bi-centenial color scheme. The bike was red and someone had put a custom white and blue seat on it. It had all the vetter tupperware on it. The points and condensor ignition got changed out for electronic triggering. Lots and lots of good memories on that bike.

Got my first Gold Wing, an '85 LTD when I was 28.

I think that bike was, perhaps, even more comfortable than my new '06.

It certainly didn't PERFORM as well my '06, but it sure was comfortable. Also, the narrower fairing allowed for more flexible placement of highway boards.

I wish my '06 was the same two-tone gold/brown that my '85 LTD was... Sure was a pretty bike...
