This is kind of a goofy question. I have had a quart of gear oil on the garage shelf for a long time (maybe 3 or 4 years). I friend of mine told me that I should not use it for my next final gear oil change because "oil has a shelf life". Never heard of such a thing. Is my friend nuts or am I?

Yep. If it is sealed you are probably OK. Oil has a tendancy to absorb moisture over time when open (NOT sealed).

So to answer the question, Yes and No. LOL

BTW, don't ask this bunch if you are nuts. It makes them nervous.

Cheers

If the container is sealed and hasn't swollen up or sucked in then there is nothing wrong with the contents.
