I did not get a warm and fuzzy feeling.

Last week we were going on vacation (in a cage). The route took us by the dealer where I bought my 2018 DCT. I thought I would ask about the recalls needed on the bike.
A woman came out of the service dept office to help me. I asked about the recalls and she looked at me as if I had 2 heads. Then she went on to say that their long time goldwing mechanic passed away two weeks ago. She went out to their other mechanic to see if he was confident enough to tackle the job. She then said she had someone that could do it.
I was not ready to have it done right then anyhow, just want to know if they had done any yet. She then said that they would not even tackle the job until their off season. Which meant I would have to find a trailer to bring up in the winter for them to work on.

Needless to say I did not leave with high hopes of having the work done at their shop.

When a dealership loses a long time Gold Wing mechanic, often times, it's a really serious matter. It takes a lot of training and experience, not to mention years of hard work, to become an experienced Gold Wing mechanic, and most upcoming GW mechanics are best trained under a veteran old timer: it's the best way to learn. That said, for this dealership to replace this man might prove to be a real challenge. Mother used to tell me that money doesn't grow on trees, HA, neither do GW mechanics. I wish them all the best in finding one, and if not, I hope their customers will have patience with the guy they do have as he learns how to become their next experienced GW mechanic. A sad reality that every mechanic must face is that it takes time to learn the trade, and they're required to get every job done in a certain amount of time. I know the frustration of trying to keep up with the experienced guys when I didn't have the experience. The pay was lousy, the pressure was intense, and the frustration was real.

Wow! It looks like I am lucky to have a dealer that takes care of its customers. When the recall came out and I was there, they asked me about making an appointment. I remember I received a phone call from them when the fuel pump recall came out to bring my bike in.
When I did finally take my bike in for the bolt recall, I made an appointment and then dropped the bike off at 9am and they called me at 1pm and said it was done.

👏👏👏

Like a broken record, I continue to argue vehemently there are good dealers out there.

I just received outstanding service a few days ago from my BMW multi-line dealership.

Longish story. Apologies.

I booked 5 weeks ago for 20,000 km service. (We have had unusually warm weather, and the service department is busy.). The dealership called to say they had to reshuffle some appointments due to staff absences. Could I bring the R1250 GS in one day earlier than scheduled? I said yes, and dropped the bike off with the fuel Reserve light on. I picked up the bike the next day, one day earlier than previously scheduled, and the shop had put in half a tank of gas without mentioning it.

Next, my BMW CRN (Connected Ride Navigator, a phone-based GPS type device) failed. I had emailed my parts person contact, unbeknownst to me who was on vacation, and she ordered a replacement, no questions asked, that arrived in 2 days.

Same day, I wandered into the accessories department to try on helmets. Friday afternoon, and the dealership was slow. The young accessories guy, who I learned was a new, inexperienced rider, was extremely knowledgeable about the HJC, Schuberth, and Shoei helmets I was interested in. Every time I asked to see a different model or size, he ran to the back room. I told him I was retired, had plenty of time and he didn’t need to run. He smiled and said that’s how he got his exercise. When it came time to pay, the accessories manager came out, and I said I wanted a “nice” price. He gave me a discount larger than our club’s normal discount.

I went back the next day and took donuts as a thank you to the 3 departments and made a point to talk to the general manager telling him the departments that had provided excellent service and the staff who did so.

I’m a happy camper.

You shouldn't of bought it untill all the recalls are done.
