I have a 03, just went out of warrenty in july. just bought a J&M head set. The head sets work fine but not on my bike. I took everything apart and checked all of the plugs and they were fine. everything works on the radio except the headset. Any Idea's

From what you have told us everything works but the headsets will not work when connected to your bike. If that is truly the case you must have a cord connection problem. The headset and it's cord works just not on your bike. The audio system (all radios etc) works on your bike. That only leaves the wiring coming from the audio system, under the left pocket, to the head set cord as a suspect. But we really may not have enough information to be sure of this, as many times it is just a failure to push the right buttons. I know that because I 'm an old geezer and I do it!

Try the helmet connected to the passenger spot rather than the drivers. Make any difference? If it works in back but not in front, it's a wiring harness problem.

:? I have tried everything, I have taken all the dash apart and had the radio in my hands, I have plugged and unplugged everything, The dealer has agreed to take it apart since they worked on it last by doing the swingarm weld recall. I don't trust them, They left out 2 grommets and 1 bolt on the back handle to the seat. Did not route some of the stuff the way it was originally. They let all the young Moto Cross rider want to bees and pay them minium wage. I tried to tell the Manager that the Goldwing is the most exspensive and best thing he sells and they should be treated that way. I am going to do a continuity check from the radio to both front and rear. If that checks out good and it still doesn't work I will take the radio out when the bike is in winter lay-up and send it to siearra electronics in Ohio.

I'm guessing by now you have taken off the left pocket and played with the connectors and wires that come up to the headset DIN connector?

There is a square connector under the left pocket that provides for the microphone and headset audio.

If you need it, I can tell you what pins on the square connector are which.

I have modified mine and added a second mini headphone connector for molded earbuds.

Yes, there are two modes..... speaker and headphone. When you test.
You can see the two modes on the bikes display.

hope this helps,
dw

 Thanks for all the help and replys, This friday I am going to take the dash and tank cover apart again. I have a house stereo in my garage with 6 speakers and am going to use one speaker and cut one of the wires and put alligator clips on the ends and go threw all of the pins as a coninuity check, If the speaker works on all 5 pins then it is the radio and I will ship it to get fixed. If I find the bad connection then Sunday is the Washington's best end of the summer Run called the Oyster Run and I will be able to talk to the wife while riding. We end up taking 3 different ferries, and hit the casino on the way home. It might rain but the wife said that an't stopping us. Thanks and happy riding, might see some of you there.

The speaker would only work on three of the wires since two are used by the microphone.

Take a ride over here this weekend and I'll help you troubleshoot it properly.

 Thanks for the replys. I did a check of the contacts from where the head set plugs into the bike upto the pins at the radio plugin and all work good, all the connectors are good. I get sound out of every wire. The only thing left is to spray cleaner from Radio Shack, Running down there now. If that doesn't work then the radio is the problem. Thanks

jladybird,

If you have tested the external cables, then try this.
Hold the front connecter ( female 5 pin DIN ) so that it is faceing you.
Turn it until the middle pin is at 12:eek:clock
Now all of the pins are on the upper side of the connector.
The alignment slot is at 6:eek:clock
Pin numbers are from left to right 1 - 5
Where pin 3 is at 12:eek:clock
Pin 3 should be ground
Pin 4 right channel speaker out
Pin 5 left channel speaker out
You can insert paperclips into pins 3 and 4 going to a small speaker
Turn on the key
Make sure the headset icon is showing in the front display
turn up the volumn as needed
Moving Pin 4 to Pin 5 will test the other channel

If no sound....
I don't remember if you said you are getting sound out of the dash speakers. If so, and your going to take of the top shroud, check the harness which goes from the left side square connector ( under the left pocket) to the interconnection at the radio.
Look for bent or pushed in pins on all these connectors.

Hope this helps
