Met a long time GL-18 owner and we were talking about the rear diff fluid and how hard or messy it was to replace the oil. He suggested using an oil squirt can. I had one laying around so I cleaned the old oil out and refilled with the gear oil. I had to refill it once, but there was no mess and I highly suggest this idea.
The fluid that came out was very dark but luckily not sparkly, thus me thinking its been in there for many miles. I remember when I first drained My ST-1300, it came out dark. Then I heard that Honda adds Moly lube to all the new bikes for break in purposes. Then I went to a 10 K interval with that bike and it always came out clean.
Since this bikes was dark, who knows how long its been in there?
Just glad I got it done.
