Insurance on 2008 GL Roadsmith Trike

Many thanks to all who posted on someone's insurance thread with insuring bikes and trikes. Saturday I'll finally get to pick up my trike. Insurance is all set thanks to this forum.

It's been awhile since I owned a Bike, and insurance has changed over time. I contacted 5 insurance companies, and ended up with Foremost under AARP. My own insurance man (good friend for 30 years) couldn't compete providing Progressive, Dairyland or others he handles in Wisconsin. I even did a a Progressive online quote. The highest quote for 100/300/50 and $250 deductibles on Comp/collision and towing was $545 from Progressive, and Foremost was $335.00. Of course a clean driving record for many years helps as well as a good credit rating too. $200 per year savings is significant.

Foremost was actually more than the final quote, but after calling them and talking to a rep, giving him more info, getting permission for my driving record, credit, etc. the cost came down $80 from $415. Probably the most significant help was in adding the value of the trike kit (installed by trike shop not me) and the bike together, which he called an auditor on for verification. If they screw up, the rates won't go up, we'll see.

Your great help saved me some money, and maybe what I've posted will help someone else. Of course rates by state and within a state vary too.

Thanks Again,

Greg

Insurance

Hello Loren:

I respect your opinion. Wisconsin has one of the very best insurance laws in the entire country. That does make a difference. Laws vary from state to state, and in Wisconsin they are tough on the insurance industry for payments on claims, education for reps, and regulations. It's not like that in other states. We are fortunate here.

Not sure how your state rates, but it is nice to have that security. I'll try Foremost and see what happens, hopefully I'll never have to file a claim.

I'm an insurance broker and my 'wing is insured with Foremost. My only claim so far is a rear tire went bad on Memorial Day and they towed me and wife about 40 miles to my home since no bike shops were open. Used a "roll-back" truck. They could of towed me about 2 miles to a nearby dealer, but like I told Foremost, no one was open, so take me home and they did.
