The iWay does not do TTS (text to speech synthesis) like the newer Garmin units do. The iWay has a pre-recorded database of some of the more common names, but obviously, they can't do that for all roads. Roads with numbers in their name will be spoken, such as 'Turn right in five hundred feet onto WA99' South ('double U A').
The newer Garmin units will try to speak the name of each upcoming street on your route, which sometimes results in mistakes such as 'Wilson Dr' being pronounced as 'Wilson Doctor' and other minor issues. I noticed with my testing that it had a tough time with a lot of the Indian-based names.
Maybe I'll record some samples of an iWay in the routing mode so people can hear what it sounds like...
