J&Ms “Private” rider/passenger helmet-to-helmet intercom feature for our BT04/BT03+ Bluetooth headsets has finally been released, and it was well worth the wait. (software update v001.1.4 – 10/20/2018)

In our 40+ years of building helmet headsets, we have never ridden with an intercom system at interstate highway speeds that was this quiet! (see https://www.jmcorp.com/SeeProducts.asp?PF=30

Headsets now link together in SSP (simple secured pairing mode) so that you won’t accidentally link them to any other device close-by during the initial pairing process.

J&Ms BT04/BT03+ headsets also now recognize Bluetooth feature “Universal Pair” so that you can link together 1 J&M Bluetooth headset and 1 other-brand Bluetooth headset and still talk at distances of up to 1/3 of a mile.

We are also just DAYS away from solving the stereo music stream re-start puzzle for the 2018-2019 Honda Gold Wing GL1833, and once that is done, we will release software update v001.1.5 to work with EITHER of the HONDA software updates that have been loaded into the audio system of the GL1833.

For those who already own our BT04/BT03+ headsets, go here https://www.jmcorp.com/Static/bluetooth-software-updates.htm on the J&M website to download the latest software version into your headset and this new update should be posted no later than 10-22/2018.

We also have the updated BT04/BT03+ headsets on display and available for purchase on-site at the BIG J&M Audio Trailer set up for the BIKETOBERFEST rally, Oct 17-21, at Rossmeyer’s Destination Daytona, exit 273 off of I-95 in Ormond Beach FL 32174.

We anticipate future BT04/BT03+ software updates to include adding a 3rd helmet to the SSP “private” helmet-to-helmet intercom mode, adding an intercom vox-over-music feature when just two headsets are linked together, adding the ability to link to the Harley WHIM module and stream aptX digital stereo music from the Harley audio system and voice prompt updates to provide the user with additional headset configuration information.

If you have any questions about the implementation or operation of these new software features, please send email to: [email protected] .

Doug ,,,,,,

someone was terribly confused at BIKETOBERFEST ,,, we had hundreds of BT04/BT03+ headsets with the latest software for Upgrade and for sale right at the BIG J&M Audio Trailer ,,,,,,

we did not have our 2018 Gold Wing there on display because it was back in the J&M shop for further R&D ,,,,,,

I want to apologize to anyone who received incorrect information from our sales people at the J&M trailer ,,,,,,,

this coming weekend at the Lonestar rally in Galveston TX we will again have all the new BT04/BT03+ Bluetooth headsets available for upgrade and sale, right at the BIG J&M Audio Trailer, set up at the Harborside Vendor Lot right across from the cruise ship dock ,,,,,,

we look forward to seeing you there ,,,,,

Hey John,
I purchased the BT03's for my wife and I back in April, when I bought my '18 Wing. I have a note from your audio support that I could upgrade those when you had the BT04 ready. Are you ready to do that yet, and if so, who should I contact?
Thanks for your great service!

The following information will be on the J&M website by the end of the week ,,,,

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

J&Ms BT-04/BT03+ headsets are FINALLY ready for prime-time on the 2018-2019 Gold Wing.

Using our exclusive SmartBlu technology, when the BT-04 headset is linked to the new Wing, its internal features & functions are modified/optimized for this specific Bluetooth audio system. (Applies to BT-04 software version v00.1.5 & later)

Going forward we will be periodically updating the software package inside the J&M BT-04 Bluetooth headset to add additional features, fix any bugs that pop-up and keep up with software changes that Honda may make to the audio system on the new Wing.

The features, linking scenarios and operations listed below are what you can expect with the BT-04/BT03+ software version v00.1.5.

Headset & Cell Phone Linking

1. Rider to link their headset to the Rider HS feed from the Bluetooth system menu.
2. Rider to link their cell phone to the Bluetooth system on the Wing OR plug-in their iPhone to the system USB for Apple Car-Play functions.
3. Passenger to link their headset to the Passenger HS feed from the Bluetooth menu system.
4. Passenger to link their cell phone direct to their own BT-04 headset (NOT to the audio system on the Wing)
5. Rider and Passenger headsets to be linked together in simple secured pairing mode (SSP) for “Private” helmet-to-helmet intercom conversations.

How To Listen to Music

At this point both rider and passenger can take advantage of their own music source coming from the audio system using Honda’s dual-zone technology with all headset music volume adjustments made from the handlebar and/or rear controls so that there is never any need to “Fiddle” with music volume adjustments on the headset.

The Passenger can also listen to their own music source available from their linked cell phone, while still being available for helmet-to-helmet intercom conversations.

How To Answer Rider Cell Phone

When an incoming cell-phone call is received thru the system, the rider will view on screen and make the selection to answer or reject the call with the handlebar controls.

The FIRST time the Rider will talk on the phone, the BT04 headset volume needs to be adjusted to maximum with the volume + (up) button on the headset, and then all subsequent volume adjustments while talking on the Rider’s cell phone will be made with the Wing’s handlebar volume control.

How To Answer Passenger Cell Phone

When an incoming call is received by the passenger headset, the music will mute and a ring-tone will be heard in the passenger headset only.

If the passenger wishes to answer the call, they will momentarily press their headset’s multifunction button one time.

When the passenger is finished talking, they can simply wait for the other party to hang up or they can terminate the call with a single press on the headset’s multifunction button.

With the Passenger’s headset, all cell phone call volume adjustments are made on the headset itself with the vol-up (+) and vol-down (-) buttons during actual cell phone conversations and the headset will remember these volume settings for subsequent cell phone conversations.

How to Use Rider-to-Passenger Intercom.

Once the Rider and Passenger headsets have been linked together for “private” helmet-to-helmet communications, either can activate or terminate the intercom function with a single press on the intercom button on either headset.

When in helmet-to-helmet intercom mode, intercom volume adjustments are made on the headsets themselves with the vol-up (+) and vol-down (-) buttons only.

These intercom volume adjustment settings will be remembered by each headset so there will be no need to “fiddle” with them each time the helmet-to-helmet intercom function is activated.

How To Use 40-CH CB Radio

After starting the bike and music is playing into the Rider and Passenger headsets, lower the CB squelch setting to level 1 and confirm that the CB background static noise is heard in the headset.

Then adjust the headset volume to maximum FIRST with the volume + (up) button on the headset itself, then all subsequent CB radio volume adjustments are to be made using the handlebar volume control. (For the duration of that ride sequence)

Then turn the CB squelch control back up to about level 8, or however high is necessary to remove the background CB static, at which time the music will return to both the Rider and Passenger headsets.

If the Rider or Passenger wish to talk over the CB radio, simply depress either the handlebar mounted CB PTT switch or activate CB TX from the passenger controls, if your Wing is so equipped.

Do these J&M headsets automatically switch back and forth between intercom and music like previous generation GL wired audio systems?

John:
Have you gotten any closer to a finished product on this fix for the Honda download problem with the re-start on the flash drive? I have to regularly unplug & plug my flash drive to make my system usable. I like many others (I'm sure) am very thankful that you addressed this issue. :serious: :smile2: :wink2:

John:
Yes I thought that you meant problems with the flash drive music control. Since the update, my USB drive controls quit working. I can unplug the drive which seems to reset it. Then plug it back in & it will work fine for a while. I do not notice any problem with the Iphone music. That always works.
I never had this problem until the update. :serious: :frown2: :crying:

Just purchased the BT-04 for my wife's helmet. Install went fine, pairing went fine. Then the issue posed up that can't be. Per instructions, and video's to "Active helmet to helmet intercom you must PUSH THE INTERCOM BUTTON. Yes it works, but you have to Push the button a second time to get music back. PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME I'M DOING IT WRONG!!! This would be the biggest inconvenience in the Wing World. How did we go from the Hard Wire system that you adjusted the Mute on the intercom system so when you talked the MUSIC would mute and you could talk crystal clear and when you were through the MUSIC would gradually return to the previously volume. NO BUTTON PUSHING,

TWC ,,,, lots of moaning and groaning in this area of course, as there is no intercom built into the new Wing itself ,,,,

The J&M Bluetooth BT04 Headset's helmet-to-helmet intercom is manual and "private" and allows either the driver or passenger to activate/deactivate the intercom, while listening to their own music stream AND their own cell phone connections ((see new video here
,,,,,

we are working on updates to the operation of the BT04 on the new Wing, so that when the intercom is activated, the music is still heard in each headset, regardless of music source, and then is muted in both helmets when either the driver or passenger speak ,,,,,

our current BT04 Bluetooth headset is also one of the only sets on the market whereby the Honda 40-ch CB radio will properly interrupt the music AND Intercom, whichever is activated at the time ,,,,,
