I'll be traveling with the wife and my buddy and his wife for a week long trip from RI to Kentucky on August 20th. We're looking for a place to homebase for 3 or 4 days in the Kentucky area. We've been to the Tennesee / dragon / Smoky Mtn area and wanted to see something different than that area again.

I'm hoping for a mix of attractions to entertain the wives for a few days and also allow us to do some nice backroad carving. I'd appreciate any recommendations from folks who are out in that area.

Neighboring states are also ok, I'm not hard pressed just for Kentucky. Just looking for a homebase location to work from.

I would stay a day or two around Mammoth Cave, then head east 3 hours to Land Between the Lakes for another day or so. Holiday World in Santa Claus, Indiana is worth the trip, and an hour away. Bardstown Ky has a dinner train. Not much here compared to the Smokies for riding.
