Good luck Joe. Sounds like PT is going well and you’ll be back in the saddle soon.

Had mine done a few yrs ago. At 6 wks post op was able to log a few hundred miles albeit swollen afterwards.

PS Those compression sleeves & ice therapy machine are your best friend.

Looks a little bit swollen.
Looks like mine did, at day 7 to 14. I tried the compression socks in that timeframe, but discovered, as in the above pic, they caused a 'choke point' at their top, just below the knee. I was a bit concerned about this, so slit the top band in 3-4 places, about 1' down. That helped, but I still stopped wearing them. I preferred to lay on the sofa with left leg up on the sofa's back, and an ice pack on the knee. After about 3 weeks, all lower swelling disappeared, no more pitting edema in the foot and ankle. Now at day 41 since the surgery, the only swelling is at the knee, and I've heard that may take 6 - 12 months to fully go down. Meanwhile, it is almost pain free, and seldom above 1 (1-10 scale). I am pretty much back to fully capable of all daily living activities, including riding motorcycles for as long / far as I want. So I am a happy camper, at this point.

have not tried kneeling yet... still working through the process
however I did get a pretty good set of gel kneepads
one I wear in the shop as I am trying to avoid banging my knee (can be a bit touchy)
the other is as I progress, it will likely use it at least initially in kneeling

best wishes on continued recovery

When did you have your TKR done?
Thanks

According to my Doctor and PT therapist.....
Compression socks should be worn to initially help with possible blood clots and also help with swelling.........duration depends on individual.
(I wore them for the first 3-weeks during the day only)
Also, the compression socks should not be worn to just below the knee.......because what happens is shown above, it drives the fluid to the knee, which is not where you want it.
Inflammation on the knee restricts motion......

Compression socks along with a compression sleeve over the knee drives the swelling/inflammation up past the knee and allows the body to absorb the fluids.
I had pretty good swelling/inflammation on the leg and knee.....at about 2-months it was all gone including over the knee.

That's fantastic, Joe. Just remember to keep doing your range of motion exercises for the rest of the year, so granulation/scar tissue doesn't impinge on your flexibility.

I've been reading this thread and biting my tongue, but out of fear of being booted, will refrain from offering my usual advice that I have offered to all my friends over the last 56 years.

Do you know if you had the robotic, muscle sparing technique? One indicator is if you kept your OEM kneecap. Also, they are quick to tout it if they could offer it, at least that was my experience. Regardless, sounds like you are doing well on the mend.
Yes, it was the robotic, muscle sparing technique. They mount the track down around your ankle and that guides the robot along the bone. Had my bandage removed yesterday. And yes, gave up on the VA and had it done through Medicare...VA is not in a good place right now.
