Yes. And yes. 1st position hot air away from you. 2nd warm air to you. 3rd is useless, keeps it from being broken if hit with leg. Don't use the 3m EHB tape with it, only the two screws. Will stay in place, and allow removing for maintenance. Looks OEM.

I've had them for 6 years and they work well. I didn't use the tape either, I used the SJ4580 3M Dual Lock Low Profile clear. Just a couple inches of it per side is all that is needed.
I rarely use the open (heat) position.
