Kuryakyn Trailer Hitch Question

1625 Views 5 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Ed Jenkins
I contacted the head of the service department at Schroder's Honda in Hendersonville, NC about installing a trailer hitch on my 2012. They sell trailers and do a good bit of hitch installations and trike conversions. He recommended the 2010 Kuryakyn hitch but modification to make it fit the 2012 Wing. He didn't go into much detail about what the modification was or why it was needed. All he said was that when you take the ball off (or was it the tongue?), you can't see the hitch at all.

Can you explain this to me?

Any feedback or comments on the Kuryakyn hitch?

The frame is up under rear fender. The ball and mount slide up into the main frame. When it is removed you see nothing id the main hitch frame. I have one on my 06 I really like it. Don't go with a copy of it. The bargin brands just don't fit as well.
Kuryakyn does not list a hitch for the 2012. With the change in the rear fender, the 2010 hitch will not work. The hitch bar needs to be longer.
Bushtec and Rivco have a hitch specifically designed for the 2012. The hitch bars are about 3 inches longer.
Both of these hitches mount to 4 points on the main frame and two stablizing points on the subframe. Kuryakyn's mount to the rear crash bars and four points on the subframe.
About $100 difference, but a much stronger mount. And it's designed for the 2012.
The Rivco requires a hole cut in the rear fender. The Bushtec comes out under the fender. Both are vertical hidden hitches.
So basically what your saying is the older 1800 kyury hitch will fit but I need to manufacture a new vertical hitch part.
You could do that, but keep in mind that the further you extend the drawbar from the hitch, the more stress you will put on it.
That is probably why Kury has not done it.
yes, that is what Bushtec did to solve the 2012 problem,
