I've been lurking on this board for quite some time.
I figure it's time to poke my nose out and see who's around my area.
I'm near Lake Hopatcong in the northwest corner of the state.
Currently have two Goldwings, a '99 SE and a nice '76.
Just wondering if there are any more Wing folks in my area on here.

Thanks for the nice welcome, guys.
Honda John, I haven't been down to Ringoes in years.
I did ride down the Penn side of the Delaware to New Hope
last summer.
Bassnman, I'll send you a PM! Thanks!

Lake Hopatcong brings back many fond memories from the 50's & 60's. My family lived in West Milford NJ and my 2 Aunts & Uncles both had summer homes on the same property and we spent lots of time there out on the lake in my cousins boat. Thanks for the trip down memory lane and welcome to the forum.

Hey Martin! You're only about four miles from me!
Hopefully I'll get to see you one of these days.
Boy! One Wing consumed by fire and another totaled!
You're not having very good luck with these, are you? LOL!!!

Paul, most of the summer homes here have been converted
to year round living. You probably wouldn't recognize the
area today. I've been here since '77. The changeover was
already mostly complete by then.

Thats what I've been told and I'm sure I wouldn't recognize the area. I don't remember if they sold their places before the changeover was completed as the last time I was there was before I went in the service in '64 and I never returned home after my discharge. One hilarious moment that I will never forget is my Uncle's German Shepard's encounter with a skunk. The skunk sprayed the dog pretty good and the dog came running into the house and ran all of us outside. :crying: Many good times there in the summer and I also remember that very twisty road getting to there place. Fond memories.

Pat, I won't be able to make it to this meeting.
Let me know when the next one is.
Too much stuff going on here right now that
I can't put off.
I'll look forward to seeing both of you then.

Paul, we still have most of the twisty roads around the lake, but in
the mid '70s, Rt 15 became the major four lane highway through the
area. When you were last here, you probably took Rt 181 along the
the lake.
And I'm sure you remember the Bertrand's Island amusement park.
That closed up in '85. That area is all condos now.

Now that's a blast from the past. Had many good times there in the summer.
Definitely some major changes there. I'm sure its a pretty pricey area now.

Paul, a little trivia for you....
Watch the movie "The Purple Rose Of Cairo".
All the amusement park scenes were filmed
at Bertrand's Island after the park had closed
for good. Not long after the movie was released,
the park was torn down.

Offcenter, I really appreciate you taking the time to bring me up to date on all that has happened at Lake Hopatcong and enabling me to take a trip down memory lane. I have passed along all of this info to my brother as I'm sure he will be interested in it.
