So flame me..off topic......

Thinking of going there for spring break...march 14 thru the 16th. let me know what there is to do and see. No skiing...bones are bad as they are.
Shows and where to stay..which part of town is the best. Thanks for any help....like to gamble.....come back on weds then off to marble falls for the Texas Gathering........

Bruce - while Reno has a larger base of choices in places to stay, I certainly recommend staying in Lake Tahoe or South Shore and soaking up a real beautiful area. There is really nothing quite like it anywhere.
Of course South Shore offers casinos such as Harrah's, Harvey's, and Caesar's that are all adjacent to one another, plus many nearby inns and motels. Check with a travel agent as you can likely get a deal on some terrific package deals too.

Things to do? You're still in potential ski season so make reservations early and also potential winter weather with snow, although hopefully aside from some great gambling and shows, try to get in a drive around the lake (on a motorcycle it's fantastic), a boat tour and dinner out on the lake and some exploring around the area. If you like Basque food, take a ride over nearby Kingsbury grade down to Gardnerville, Nv (also a great and steep motorcycle road) to the Overland Bar & Basque Restaurant for dinner and you'll love it.

WE ARE FLYING TO RENO. TRAVEL AGENT SAYS...STAY IN RENO..CAESARS, HARRAH'S OR THE HILTON AND THEN RENT A CAR AND DRIVE TO LAKE TAHOE.... PRICES ARE A LOT CHEAPER THAT WAY? NEED $$$ FOR GAMBLING! :lol:

I lived in Reno for 30 years prior to moving to Las Vegas. While I agree with Dale with what to see, March may still be to early to try Kingsbury Grade or think about a cycle around Tahoe. Kingsbury is closed most winters due to snow and Tahoe gets real cold, especially if you are not into the ski scene.

Try Virginia City for a look at the old Comstock days. If you get to Tahoe, try to get to Tahoe City and take a look over the bridge at the dam. There used to be trout there that were several pounds each. You can't fish there and I think the fish know it. If you stay at Tahoe, try the south shore and stay at Harrahs, best hotel I have every stayed in. First time I ever saw televisions and phones in the bathrooms.

Don't forget the "ponderosa ranch" where filming was done for Bonanza. I believe its at Incline Village , NE side of Tahoe. Carson City had a couple old mining museums that were a break from casinos

It's about a 75 mile loop to drive around lake tahoe but the views are awesome. And you can stop at a lookout point above the infamous Emerald Bay. Might still be a little snowy to see Ponderosa ranch, but, it is worth the trip if there open and giving tours. It is in Incline Village. There is a place to rent snowmobiles in Tahoe too. My parents live there and have rented them and had a blast. The MS Dixie does a dinner cruise on the lake in the evening that is alot of fun. It's an old Paddle Wheel River Boat , live band and bar that was a lot of fun. Takes about 3 hours for the dinner cruise. I wouldn't spend too much time in Reno, just another big city with casino's.
