License plate screws/nuts??

618 Views 19 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  lowbar
Hi all,

I need a replacement set of screws/nuts to actually mount the license plate to the factory mount of the bike. I can't find them anywhere, does anyone know what part numbers they are?

Thanks!

Any motor part store should have them ? NAPA, Car Quest etc
I presume they are just a generic license plate nut and bolt ?

Oh! In that case I'm a fool :(

Thanks!

Presuming you mean mounting the actual physical license plate to the bike holder:

I got these at Autozone. $5 for the kit.
I always use SS hardware with NyLocks whenever possible and added washers on each side..

Hardware store too....get stainless so they won't rust.
I like the Reflector type......... It's amazing, on how just a tiny bit of reflected light back at a driver behind you, could make a big difference, in YOU, be'ing hit or be'ing missed........o_Oo_O

Not all hardware stores are equal...the True Value Hardware near me is "complete" beyond belief in the specialty nut, bolt, and other little things you'd never think you'll find. I bet they have over 150 of those slide-out trays and I'm happy to pay a premium to get what I want / what I need without the frustration of Home Depot's (and Lowe's) limited selection and mixed up bins. ;)

When I installed the license plate on my bike, I used security torx head stainless screws. Same on my car and truck. One reason is the custom plate frames I have. Makes it harder to steal the plate.
I also agree with shopping True Value. Higher quality and larger assortment.
This is what was on my Wing when new. Probably installed by the dealer.

Sorry, removable without tools makes it too easy to steal. JMHO
Only metric threads allowed, imperial ones would fall off ;-)

That is what mine had too, but they were replaced with real SS stuff right away.
Wal-Mart sells a plate kit that has security type fasteners that you have to have the proper security Allen key to take off. We have had issues with plates being stolen on and off again over the years, so I try to make it more difficult for them. Aparently nobody wants to pay for their registration and insurance anymore...

Tightening them using the screwdriver slot will prevent removal without a screwdriver or pliers.

People looking to steal plates would be carrying the basic tools. A simple multi-tool would do it. Security head torx or allen head solves the problem. The ones I used have a button head. Can't grab it with pliers.

Security Head Torx or Allen Head hardware solve nothing. If a thief wants your plate bad enough, they'll either tear it off or rip your rear fender off. Pull out on the lower portion of the rear fender to see just how easily it could be done.

It all depends on how bad they want your plate. They sell the wrench (with screws) at every auto parts store for about $6.
