Dunno if anyone is interested in do-it-yourself electric controllers, but there are some cheap kits at Hobby Tron that look like they would work as a controller.

It has a 5 amp relay, but could probably easily be upgraded with a higher current relay if needed.

Good price. I would expect that one would need to pot or case this thing to keep the road grime off.

Edit in response to daver: Only the pulse time needs to be externally adjustable, pulse width could remain constant. A three position switch for med-off-hi would do the trick if you do not want to run an external pot.

I'm not sure that would realy work well the way it is...
You would have to swap out the relay, and then replace one or both of the pots to make it adjustable while in use. It also doesn't have an off...

It would be an ok start to do some experimenting, but something like this would probably be a much closer start...

Thanks for that link. That looks like it might be a better choice.
