So I'm new to the Goldwing, more specifically the 2018 Goldwing Tour. And I've looked, but can't find it. What is the roughly rectangular piece in the forward section of the passenger seat?
If I pull that piece out, if looks like it could be something to hold onto, but that can't be it...???

I feel dumb but can't image what it is.

I would guess it is a mounting area for a driver's backrest.

On the left side of the seat? If so, it is the helmet lock and the unlock mechanism is on the inside of the left saddlebag with the actual lock mechanism dohickey inside the saddlebag.

So thank you everyone, I thought it was something else too. I was referring to the squareish object in the forward center of the passenger seat. Seems it is pretty ugly if you do not have the backrest installed.
