Does anybody have a 205/60 mounted they can accuratly measure the widest part with it mounted?? My R3T has a 5" rim also and I'm wondering if I have the clearance for the wider tire (which is closer in diameter to the OEM)...

Also any feedback on handling differences between the 195/55 and the 205/60 would be helpfull..

Thanx!

Dave, go to this thread, there might be the info on how to measure what you are looking for

Thanx Tim, but those numbers are only valid when you mount the tire on the recommended rim width (5.5" min) not a 5" rim like the GL1800 or the Rocket III Touring.. I'm suspecting that the narrower rim would make the overall width narrower also, but I'd like an actual measurement to confirm..

PunkinDave,
I do not run the 205/60. I know you did not ask about a 195/55 but if it will help......I will run out to the cold garage, lay on the floor and measure the width of my 195 for you  !
I suspect that with the clearance issues on the GL1800 that someone would have actually measured the 205/60 tire or perhaps someone had one on a spare rim that could be measured.. There's lots of guys running CT on the regular Rocket III but no data on the Rocket III Touring being it just came out the middle of last year..

Thanx for the generous offer, but there's no need.. If you'd like to measure your tire for your own edification though, I'll gladly come over with a blanket and some hot chocolate for you!!! ;)

No problem. I'm sure someone has measured their 205 before or have one sitting around that is mounted. Just thought I would offer. No need to run over 400 miles to bring a blanket and some hot chocolate.....the hot chocolate would be cold by then anyway :-( ! You are welcome to come by though  ! I'm sure I have been to Bethlehem, PA before. I'm sure in my younger days when I was hauling steel I've loaded out of there.
I don't know but wouldn't the regular Rocket III be the same basic bike as the Rocket III Touring? I would think they would be the same except for the Touring parts? Again, I don't really know! Hope you get all the answers you seek!
The regular Rockets are completely different and only share the engine and a couple of other parts, the rest of the bike is new.. Even the engine on the Touring model has been de-tuned and has different throttle bodies.. The Regular Rocket has either a 240/50/16 Metzler on a 7.5" wide rim, the Touring has a 180/70/16 on a 5.0" rim.. They narrowed the rear for better handeling and so they could put some decent bags on her (without making her look like a fat chick!)!!

Thanx guys!! I found a guy that is running a 205/60 on the Rocket III Touring!!! It fits with close to an inch on either side to spare!! Big fat tire to be on order within the week...
Thinking Goodyear Triple Tread and a new Avon Cobra for the front...
