Wife and I will be riding to Memphis for a few days in June. I'm looking for a nice Motorcycle friendly hotel or motel in the area. We will be visiting GraceLand and I'm sure several rib joints during our stay. I know about several of the good food establishments but am at a loss as to where to stay.

I know you said you already knew about food, but just in case:

I'm told the Rendzvous has great BBQ. If you go there, I'd love to hear your opinion.

Bob,

Don’t have a place for you to stay, but may be able to save you a few bucks.

This mainly applies if you’re sixty or over. If not just file it in the memory bank for the future.

Both Mikeee and I belong to Choice Privileges http://tinyurl.com/35meoc They have about ten different motel brands to choose from. We usually try for a Comfort Inn or Comfort Suites.

The secret is, ‘You have to call’ to make your reservations and get the additional ‘over sixty’ discount. The over sixty prices will be approximately $10 less than the AARP or Internet price. If I’m at home and know where and when I want to stay, I’ll do the research online then call to make the reservations. They do not remember that you’re over sixty, you have to ask for the discount each and every time.

When traveling, we use the GPS to look ahead and search for Comfort Inns. If that doesn’t work, we will call Choice Privileges, tell them where we are and which way we are headed. Sometimes that works and sometimes we just search for a different motel chain.

Germantown east of the city is nice. Anywhere here the airport or Graceland is a $hithole

I lived in Memphis for ten years (1989 - 1999) so trust me when I tell you not to stay anywhere near Graceland unless you want to walk back home! When I visit I usually stay in Germantown where there's a good Police force or a Hampton Inn where they lock the parking area at night and have security. :?

Hotels in Memphis

Let me say the advice given so far is right on target. Stay on the east side of Memphis and away from the south and central parts of town.
The Rendezvous food is ok in my opinion but I prefer steak and the ButcherShop is my fav for beef and Benihana is the best Japanese Steakhouse around.

We stayed at the Best Western on Union Avenue. Great underground parking. Protected. Walking distance to most everything. Right across from The Peabody Hotel. Had a great time at B.B. King's. Ribs were fantastic. Band was The Corey Osborne Band. Great music and great food. Was quite pleased. Very suprised with Beale Street. Much nicer and cleaner than what I'm used to ..............Bourbon Street. Be sure to take the Duck tour. Well worth the time and money.
