Can't claim the idea, someone else used this to describe their bike.. I'm just presenting it for a little consistency and a point of reference for newbies (maybe worth sticky or maybe needs more to be sticky worthy)

Model Nomenclature

Year [Base or Tour] [6 speed Manual/DCT/AirBag]

18 [B/T][6M/DCT/AB]

so I have a

2019 Goldwing Tour 6 Speed Manual Transmission = 19 T 6M
2018 Goldwing Base Dual Clutch Transmission = 18 B DCT
2019 Goldwing Tour DCT Airbag = 19 T DCT (not that there are any Base Airbags but it makes it consistent and flexible if Honda shocks us with adding an Base Airbag )

Didn't Honda already do this with their lettering scheme? BD/B/AB or some such thing?

How about these from Honda:

GL1800B = GL1800 "bagger" (no trunk), 6 speed transmission
GL1800BD = GL1800 "bagger" (no trunk), DCT
GL1800 = GL1800 Tour with trunk, 6 speed transmission
GL1800D = GL1800 Tour with trunk, DCT
GL1800DA = GL1800 Tour with trunk, DCT, Airbag

Ok that’s great but I didn’t know the Honda codes till I read this... might be nice to have in a sticky.

Pin stripes code is "2". I have to select "GL1800 2AC" when I want to look for OEM parts for mine.... The coding used in the owners manual does not use "AC" like the parts fiche does making the "2" the significant item indicating "pin striping". With all of the Parts fiche containing the "AC" and that most of us don't worry about the "pinstriped", we can skip the "AC" and "2AC" part using the same codes the owners manual does. Otherwise, I could say mine is a T6P, or TMS, or TCP/IP and really confuse everyone..... trunk clutch pinstripe/intercom possible.

GL1800 2AC = Tour 6speed manual with pin stripes on the parts fiche.

parts fiche coding:
GL1800 2AC - tour manual pinstriped
GL1800 AC - tour manual
GL1800B AC - no trunk manual
GL1800BD AC - no trunk DCT
GL1800D 2AC - tour DCT pinstriped
GL1800D AC - tour DCT
GL1800DA 2AC - tour DCT airbag pinstriped

Why don't you just say what you have and not use codes that will confuse people?
Exactly! Keep it simple. Sometimes we complicate our lives with the new language of confusion......(ex. texting)

How many times have you searched the web to find out what 5 or 6 capital letters mean now-a-days?
