Here's a question for you Okies out there...I'm hoping to make the Death Valley ride in a couple of weeks, and would seek to ride around 600 miles the first day, which would put me right at Oklahoma City. Would prefer not to have to ride through OKC at the end of a long day, rather, would like to stop on the east side of town for the night.

Ideally, a place 10-20 miles east of town would be great. Any ideas from those who know the area?

If you're on I-40, exit 185 there's a Hampton Inn pretty close to Shawnee Honda. http://goo.gl/maps/nIALm I've never been to a "bad" Hampton. YMMV

Thanks, Pooch. That's the right area. I hate to spend $110 a night for a bed and bathroom, but will call them to see if I can negotiate a better rate. I say I'm not cheap, but maybe I am...I wouldn't balk at that and much more if I was on vacation, with my wife, in some desirable place...but just to lay my head down and sleep for 8 hours, usually a Motel 6 is plenty enough for me. Thanks for the location, though...I think Shawnee will be the place to stop the first night.

If you are retired military, any branch, you can stay at military base lodging. Don't know if this will help but check it out. http://military-hotels.us/
