This place has a bed and breakfast but it is a few miles east of the 395 and you have to take the Benton Crossing Road just north of Crowley Lake off of the 395 around to where it meets the 120. From there you can ride the 120 back out to the 395 just south of Mono Lake and it is a beautiful ride. I have not stayed at this place but visited it a couple of times as we have been considering making this trip sometime in the future. There are lots of places to stay in Bishop but I personally have not stayed in any of the motels. We have stayed in Independence at a little 50's place called Rey's Den. Price is right and it is quiet and clean. It is just a short ride to get up to Bishop from Independence. That entire area is one of my favorite places to ride, camp and just be in.

Last year we stayed at the Motel6, and it was not the greatest(even for a Motel6). It was expensive for a Motel6 as well. I would not stay there again, and we usually stay in Motel6 or Super8's.

Other than price, the reviews there don't look very favorable; most notably the references to bedbugs. I've never been there, but reading those reviews would make me look elsewhere.

Ya, the bedbug review was a woman been hiking in the mountains all day, she posted other places also and the manager stated a reply they was no bedbugs ,that perhaps her itching was something she picked up hiking in the woods.. this is why I asked. Too many dives but the others are expensive and not much better reviews...

You may also want to check a few places in Mammoth. It's just up the road, and might have more plentiful choices. I know some of the reviews have to be taken with a grain of salt, but read a few reviews that were not so good. As for the Motel6, the main complaint I had was that they put one of 4 rooms for our group on the opposite end of the motel, the check-in was slow, the ice machine was empty, and they had recently remodeled the rooms(which was nice) including flat panel TV's, but you lost all of the other things we had on our previous visit there. e.g. mini-fridge, hair dryer, coffee machine, etc. It was clean, but also almost $100 a night for 2 adults.

I don't mind $100 a night for a nice place, like hampton inn , homewood suites. oxford inn and the like , but not motel 6 ..We have also been looking at Mammoth.

If you're going northbound on 395, then you might also consider this place 30 miles north of Bishop... I've stayed here twice, and like it; very primative, good restaurant on-site. Bodie Ghost Town is almost directly across the street too (and makes a great destination)

If you are going south then you may want to look in Independence at Rey's Den as I mentioned. $65 a night, small fridge, microwave and some chairs on the front porch to sit and have a coctail, and the ice machine works. There are only 8 or 10 rooms and as mentioned very clean, no bugs. Not much to do in the town at night but we like that.

I've stayed at the best western there 2 times on 2 different trips. It was clean, and comfortable. Restaurants easy walking distance. I'd stay there again the next time I go down that way. There are a few workers from BNSF that leave early am, that was the only noise we heard. And breakfast was included. Pool but the hot tub was out of service last Sept.

This wont work for smaller towns and cities. But if you are ever out and about and are planning on staying at major city use hoteltonight app for smart phones. The good rates are available after noon each day. I've taken off with a destination in mind without a place to stay. Done this several times in Las Vegas, San Diego ect. Want a place to stay on the strip in Vegas for $40 a night?

Usually I have my wife log into the app right at noon and start searching for a place that she wants to stay at in our destination city.

And sometimes homemade muffins in the morning provided by the owner. Old school place with an actual key to enter to room.
