Last I heard was that Muth engineers are working on it, the canbus system makes them jump through hoops to play nice.

It helps other drivers see the little blinky lights to know you are turning. A lot of cars and trucks have them as standard equipment.

My wife has them on her 2012 wing and I had them on a 2009 BMW LT. They provide additional information to the rider as well as anyone beside or behind you. Most items that are easier to see should be better.
