My baby is home, kinda long

Well after another sleepless night, three hours, finally caught my flight to Penscoloa Fl from tampa, nodded out on the plane for couple of winks, the gentleman who sold my new to me 04 white wing, pick me up from the airport and we went to his house to get the bike, so we get her all loaded up, and go over everything, do a preflight, and we exchange our good buys, and I thank him again for all he has done to make this a smooth deal.
I am off at about 08:30 central time. Make a quick stop top off the tank, head up the blvd to I-10 and OH MY GOD ! does this baby rock and roll or what, the power is amazing just get her into forth or fifth gear and hang on, what a rush, and now I know I made the right choice, she sounds like she has a super charger, and runs like she has one too !
I head east down ten, crossing some river's and bay's and the weather and the sights are picture perfect, did I say I was so impressed with the power, and she also handles very well ! being she weigh's so much. I must be just the right height and all, as she fits like an old pair of levi's.
I make my first bathroom break at rest stop, swing the bars to the left, and go the lock position, and while she is still running push the reverse button in, the previous owner felt that it would help in case some one would try to load her up on trailer. After I take my break, and walk around a bit, its time to hit the road, throw gear on, put key in, turn on, hit starter, nada, check kill switch, and key again, nada, scratch head a bit, oh yea reverse button is still in, da ! will this was to be the first on many rookie mistakes of the day ! lol
Became a little board with the super slab and since I am not on a time limit I head towards Panama beach, another rookie mistake, traffic and so forth, not much to see, so I stop for a quick burger, and then get on the road, only to deal with tons of traffic, soooo I head off to the little two lane highways taking the back route to Port Saint Joe, and this is wear the view gets much better, and all is well, except a few construction zones I get to see the old Florida as she was a long, long time ago, between the homes and water it is a nice cruise, not making much time but enjoying the journey ! Its all good.
I stop for snack and some water about seventy miles west of Perry, and just as I finish, and suit back up, two wings go by, pulling small trailers, one in the back is trike, and one in front is an all white wing like mine, so I bring up rear for these fellow's for the sixty miles or so, til they pull off for fuel and such, I am then almost to us 19, and will be headed south, but its getting kinda late and I push on, and on and on, as I was suffering from the dread monkey butt for the past hour, it seems to have gone away for the time being, so I keep heading south, by the time I reach Crystal river the sun is setting and I need to swap out my eyeballs for the clear type.and the temps are dropping so it is getting kinda chilly, I add a few layers, and decide that what the heck another 145 miles won't kill me, lol and take her on in to Clearwater with out so much as hiccup from the wing, she wore me out, as it is now almost 22:00 eastern time and close to a seven hundred mile day, not to bad for my first trip on a wing, the bike is every thing you guys say they are and more, if you knew my health history and back problems, there is no way I could have made this trip on any other motorcycle . The wing is the best of best ! short of few rookie mistakes, and some monkey butt, it was great ride and I can't wait to do more, thanks again to all who post here, another happy wingnut, winger, wing ding etc....... good night:thumbup::thumbup:

Congrats on your new wing and your maiden voyage! 700 miles is a nice first day:lol::lol:
Great story,well told!Congrats and Enjoy.
Glad you brought her home to her new barn safely! They are a sweet riding machine fo sho.

As for the monkey butt, there are as many home cures as there are expensive ones. It all boils down to heat. Thin seats/vibration/hot two cylnder V-twins within inches of the seat pan all compound this dreaded syndrome. Luckily for us wingers, these catalysts don't exist. However, time in the saddle, coupled with high ambient temps take their toll. I try to remember to shift my weight every 15-20 minutes or so to help with the blood flow through those nether regions. Another thing that seems to help is some type of insulating material to help dissipate the heat and wick the sweat. Lambskin, or sheepswool is a good one. Some use wood beads. I'm sure others will share more ideas. Heck, I just went to Wally World and bought two sheepskin wash mits. I cut off the elastic band, flayed them open, then sewed them together and voila! sheepskin cover for about $8.00.

Enjoy your new steed! I know I am loving ours.

So it has more power then you thought it would So what we all knew that

So you made a few rookie mistakes So What We all make some mistakes hopefully yours will all be minor

The fact that you rode and really enjoy the bike BIG What But we knew you would.

Have fun for many years to come. And a little hint..... The smile you have after riding it for the first time never really goes away.

GREAT JOB!!!

See you at a few Florida Lunches...Look at the Florida board and join in !!!
:congrats: on your new ride. Enjoy the view!
Welcome to the world. Now get your butt off the slab and up into the mountains and give the fat girl a chane to dance.
:congrats::congrats::congrats::congrats: the only thing wrong with the wing is people want you to do other things and all you will want to do travel on it.
There is nothing like the excitement and joy after the maiden voyage, but on a wing seems like it keeps happening after every ride. Welcome aboard and watch that power it can get away from you.
Imnotlost, Tell me what did you do to keep the seat cover in place on the seat other than sit on it. Thanks. That sounds like a good Idea.
Congratulations! You done good, monkey butt and all!! :congrats:
Thanks for the great story. Its snowing hard out right now and if I can't ride tails like your's are the next best thing. Congrats on your new ride and hoping for good weather
Congrats on the NEW RIDE.
And thanks for the story. You may have answered a question of mine. I was wondering how many bike hours it is from Mobile to Clearwater. It looks like maybe 13 or so? What do ya think?
OH, and when we travel we just use those WalMart waffled foam seat cushions (about $10-15). They work fine for us on 600 mile days.
congratulations on your new ride !

very nice interesting and well written story !

lots of folks do that crazy reverse lock thing, not me, seems like thats just like looking for trouble, if i think i need to lock it up i just lock the handlebars like Honda recomends
bike hours from mobile to clearwater could be done about 8-9 hrs, I took the long way, lol, stay on I-10 to I-75 head south, through tampa around the air port, and straight across hwy 60, 60 turns into gulf to bay once you cross the water, you will be in about the center of clearwater, comming 19 is not to much fun south spring hill, if you do come us19 you can go east a little and pick up a toll road called the vertans hwy, this is a very nice road, just when you get south of homossassa turn east on hwy 98, go about three miles you will see signs and head south, there are three one dollor tolls, and two or three .75 this drops you on the west side of tampa airport take the clearwater exit, and you wil be on hwy 60 , headed west. good luck !
:congrats: on the new Wing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Come on up to WI and ride the Great River Road!
I love reading the stories people tell about their first ride. It brings back memories from when I first bought my 02

It will always be enjoyable, but savor this next few weeks because it will never feel quite the same later on.
