Need ideas how to cover a Wing on pickup truck

I'm looking for ways to cover my Gold Wing on the back of a pickup truck for transport. I want to keep my Wing clean and dry. Got any ideas?

I plan to purchase a pickup truck. I want to put my Gold Wing on the bed of the pickup truck. I plan to tow the truck/Wing combo behind a motor home. I'm thinking of a super-high topper. Or a custom topper where the top has a hinge, so I can open the top, drive the Wing onto the bed of the truck, then close the top lid once the bike is secured.

I also need to consider the length - as I'd need to extend the length of the topper so I can enclose the motorcycle.

Another idea is a small delivery van that would be large enough to put the motorcycle inside.

Got any ideas how to help me out? Pictures, suggestions, leads, etc... would all be appreciated.

Thanks!

Delivery van would be the least trouble to fix up. Might be easyer to load/unload. Plus it would lock up tighter.

If you don't mind the look.
I would say that using a cover on a motorcycle whether in an open trailer or transporting in the bed of a pickup is not a good idea in general. The flapping cover will very likely damage painted surfaces. There is a cover (I forget the brand name) that is stretchy and fits tightly, but I'm still not sure I'd trust it for transport purposes. It's also pretty expensive.
If you plan on a moving truck-like, I'd like to suggest 3 ramps. One for the wheels and one for each foot while you use the ramp.
Also unless you have a very long bed on the pickup, the weight of the Goldwing will do a number on the tailgate.
get a roll of shrink wrap. cheap & works great
gmill,
We've had to contend with this for a while now. With our last motorhome, we hauled a 7'x16', V-nosed, enclosed trailer and that, by far, is the nicest, cleanest, most secure, least hassle, way of hauling a Wing, that there is. But, if you're fair weather riders like us, you loose the option of mobility during ugly weather. But, the bike remained spotless and secure at any time we were not using it. OUTSTANDING!

But, because we liked to have options when we're out and about, viewing this fine country of ours, we had to change our game plan. So, we changed motor homes and went with the Hydralift for the back of it. Now, we CARRY the Wing on the back of the coach and, tow our Honda CRV. That way, we got the best of both worlds. But, as you are expecting, your Wing WILL get seriously dirty. Now, doing it as you plan, in the back of a truck, is not quite as bad as doing it our way. That huge, large fan on that CAT C-7 330 HP, kicks up a serious amount of road dust and debris.

So, after some searching around and asking here and there, we found a cover that fits like a glove. It's thick, doesn't flap AT ALL, and, well, it does a fair job of keeping things clean. Now, it's designed to be like a sleeping bag for the bike. It's got cinch straps all over it, about a dozen of them. It would be even better if, we didn't have SIX tie downs holding the bike onto the lift. So, the cover, is somewhat " open ended" at the very bottom, leaving avenues for dust and dirt to travel up and around the bikes un-protected parts.

The cover is called: The Transporter, by UltraGard. It's sold by Wingstuff. AS for cost, it's at Wingstuff for right at $160.00. If one was to alter that cover just a bit, you could cinch the bottom side around all the tie downs and I'm positive it would seal the bike. Now, we traveled with that cover on our bike for a 3000 mile trip and, not one place was "etched" in the paint etc. from this cover. It fits that good. It takes about, 2-3 minutes for install and or, removal. Just an idea.

If I have a choice in the future, I will get a bit larger enclosed trailer and carry a "Smart Car and the Wing". That way, EVERYTHING STAYS CLEAN AND SECURE.

Bike hauling

Ive hauled my wing to Brownsville TX and back (1525 mi.each way) on a 6.5 ft shortbed F150 and it did no damage to my tailgate. The rear wheel doesn't ride on the tailgate.

It hauled nicely.

A Goldwing won't fit in a van. They're too tall. Any pickup bed shell tall enough to cover a Goldwing sure would be an ugly sight and a huge wind drag at highway speed.

A retired box truck with a hydraulic-electric cargo loading ramp would work.
The van option may be the best bet for what you want to do. I think the Freightliner 2500 with the higher roof would allow pretty easy access to load/unload a wing.

:agree: what a pain putting wing up in the bed.Sounds like a problem in putting wing in or connecting truck to motor home I am assuming. Can you think about buying a 24' enclosed trailer with front and side ramps so you can put your car/truck and wing inside. Easier to load up and all kinds of way to strap down both.
Good Luck
