extension

If you are referring to the Road Trip Essentials extention the instructions do have you take of the rear part of the front fender. I think it would be difficult to mount it properly without taking it off. I took mine off and it was pretty simple to do.

Hey Kikker,
I have the show chrome version from Big Bike Parts,
and it looks to be the same style/shape as the one RTE paints to match.
I got the black (ready to paint) one and will paint it to match.
If the RTE one is an already painted BBP unit, it will come with
the steel inner brackets that take the strain off the rear fender so it
shouldn't be so prone to cracking. You definitely have to remove the
fender to mount those braces on the BBP version.

The RTE only comes with 3 bolts
... no "inner brackets".
I did mine last week.
You do have to take the fender off to drill the center hole.

I like my Road Trip Essentials fender extension and yes, the fender had to come off to drill holes (3) for a good installation. It's not that difficult and takes maybe an hour. (Or it takes about a six pack; one to install it and five to level it.)

Do install the support. I broke my fender and know other guys have done the same. I'm travel more rough roads than most people but the leverage is pretty high on the upper mounting area of the stock fender (which broke before adding the extention). I didn't trust the sticky tape so I riveted the supports to the fender. I have a silver bike so the rivets are hard to spot.
