NEXT year I'll be leading a ride into WV from Knoxville TN. Coming up 81 then north through Beckley to the bridge over the New River. Then heading some way West then South to home. I figure about 700mi. and a Fri, Sat & Sun trip. Don't know yet when it will go. I'd like to go in fall for colors but that will be up the the rest of the people when it goes.

What I'm looking for is things not to miss, a nice/interesting place or two, to stay, a great place to eat someplace in the middle of the trip and highways that we must take. Would like to make it a bit more than a ride in the country if you know what I mean.

Not sure if I'll go as far East at Rt16.

thanks

Burt

I guess there's nothing interesting in West Virginia. That is besides great scenic roads.

Roads for consideration

From Bridge on New River
Go 64E 31 miles to 219 North
On 219N go 55.2 miles to Marlinton
(Good meal at restaurant across bridge)
(Could stay at Marlington Motor Inn about 3 miles North of town)
From Marlinton 5.9 miles on 39E to Rte 28 North
In 28.1 miles be at Cass Railroad entrance
Also will near Greenbank conservatory
Go 13.8 miles after Cass and make right on 250
Go 20.7 miles and fuel up in Monterey VA also good food.
Go about 50 more miles and you will get to Staunton,Va and I-81 N/S
Notes: All the roads are a nice beautiful country ride.
250 has lots of curves in the mountains but it is really senic.

I have both the Cass Railroad and the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in my database. However I don't think we will be going that far East. This is a 3 day trip from Knoxville and that might just make it too far for some. I go that way twice a year with a friend who has a cabin not to far from them. I'll put 250 on my list of roads to try.

I will check out hotel by bridge. Was looking for a place to stay.

thanks

Nobody has mentioned it and I've not been there even though I want to go. That's the exhibition coal mine in the Beckley area if coal mining is of interest to you.
