Has anyone seen or heard about the sound system that Honda is offering for the cruiser / sport bike crowd?

Although the article from Japan was published in 2005 we found this displayed at the International Motorcycle Show in Cleveland this past weekend. Honda had no information at the display, just a set of cruiser bars with the speaker unit and the controller set up playing from an mp3 type player. This is the only info we could find on the net.

I saw it on display and heard it at the NY International Motorcycle Show. Suprising, impressive sound, and it's not as bad looking as some of the handlebar mount speakers presently available.

I was one of the invitees to the Torrance facility in LA to partake in the survey on a couple of versions of this that Honda was toying with, since I have a VTX also. They call a lot of us in the local VTX community when they're toying with new ideas and cruiser bike designs. At the time, they had two models: a fairly basic one, and a wowser with a digital display that hooked up to an iPod and read out the iPod's screen so you could see it, plus finger and thumb controls integrated into the bars to work the iPod. Quite sweet, actually, but the downfall for me on the prototype was the speaker arrangement. Like the picture, it's more or less a flat bar design with tweets (piezos?) stretched between the bars. Treble was great, bass virtually non existent, and no stereo field due to lack of speaker separation. They were on the right track, but I haven't seen or heard anything on it since. Maybe they tweaked all that by now. Fairly impressive engineering all things considered, for the cruiser market. Unlike the Wing, there ain't a lot of speaker mounting options on cruisers that would blend in well and look factory without adding fairings and whatnot. :D

They are now in Honda delaers nationwide. Not bad if you need tunes and prefer not ot have your hearing blocked by an in-ear system.

Thanks Joe,

Looks like a trip to the Honda shop is in order for some measurements. The girls will be happy with the possibility of listening to some tunes on their Yammie Morphous :D
