That rear one scares me... Get too close to some thick brush as you whip on by and who knows what will catch on that hook and pull you over.

These look intriguing for the front - but I'm not a crash-bar kind of guy, so...

They're about $320 delivered, from China. My experience with China-sourced crashbars (mandatory when I had a bike and lived in Shanghai - it was knocked over fairly regularly) was very good, well-built stuff. I think mainly because of the high domestic demand for this type of product.

ShanghiDan, I have these bars and absolutely LOVE them. I believe they are High Quality, and the horizontal bar up front offered a perfect place to mount my Clearwater Darlas with Amber Lenses. Wider light triangle than stock configuration. They can see me coming a mile away. (I hope they are looking). 28,000 and have not dropped it yet. If (when) it happens I won't be near as panicked, because of them. If they must be removed to change plugs, so be it. The left one has deflected a full grown dog impact with only damage to lower fog light cover. $25.00.

Thanks for the info! They also look like a perfect platform for mounting some highway pegs/boards.

"If only Honda would come up with a slightly extended stock protection, say about an inch longer, while keeping the looks more or less unchanged"
.

Why not just have the front stock guards remade to stick out an inch longer? You could take off the plastic cover. I bet people wouldn't even notice. Would it work?
That seems indeed to be the most “low profile” and well integrated approach : likely not the very best possible solution for protection, but at least a big improvement without changing the looks of the bike in a dramatic way. If done by Honda, we could even get some matching larger plastic covers. Unfortunately, we could also have to wait forever on Honda to come up with this, as an accessory or as a stock upgrade.
I hope for some aftermarket supplier to jump on this idea.

1 inch diameter. Bars clamp on with u bolts, backers, and 1 longer bolt in existing hole on each side. Enlarge photos and study the bolts. (It's been a while). Weld quality? Seems fine to me. They went on pretty quickly, with a little coaxing to get everything lined up. (Most items like this need tweaking). Search this Forum for "new and better tip over protection ideas". Post #49 is my set-up. Had to modify my Mic-O-Pegs to clear the bars. Many 000's now with this combination. I WOULD do it again.
