Hello to all. Joined a few days ago, asking if anyone has used Rotella T6 5/40 oil in a 2018 or newer. Bought a 2018 6 speed and in process of changing the oil. According to previous owner, shop did it the last time. Whoever did it, way over tightened the oil filter as I'm going to extremes to get it off. Hopefully, will get it off in morning. Not an easy filter to get to. Seems to me a cup type filter wrench is the only way. Ron

Stuck bogeyed oil filter

My 2018 Gold Wing's oil filter is stuck. Even the Honda wrench could not remove it, and rounded off the indentations. I hammered a right angle needle-nose plier into the bottom to try to turn it, and even that does not do it, just tears the casing. I haven't been able to find a tool that can...

Welcome from St. Pete Beach. Yes, the "cup type" filter wrench is necessary as you have already surmised. If the filter seems over tightened, maybe put an extension on the wrench arm to get more leverage. I have some old conduit pipe that slips over, and extends the fulcrum out another foot, or two. Oil type? I also have an MT, and cannot tell the difference between dinosaur, and test tube, but the ensuing debate is always great comic relief.

The owners manual gives three recommendations to meet when choosing an oil. API rating or certification, viscosity grade, and compatibility with an oil bath wet clutch. It's pretty easy to meet them but people will make their own decisions as they see fit.

Bought new cup filter wrench but it also just slipped off. Before going to extremes I cemented cup filter wrench to filter last night. Hopefully cement holds and fillter will come off. Will post outcome.

Let the glue set up over night. Worked, was able to turn filter and remove withouot incident. But it was no dooubt put on to tightly.

Used Gorilla glue mixed with baking soda. Was even able to bust the jold filter out of the cup and save cup filter wrench.Tightened new filter about 3/4 to one turn after contact
