Okay I asked this question on the VTXOA board and got some good response...but I thought I would ask here too.

In May I am comming down to NO for a conference. Where do the locals eat. I have to becareful with spices so can't do cajun, but still...I don't want to drop a load of cash, but good eats.

I am going to do the Mufaletta (sp) at the General Store...

any other suggestions I will be staying at the Lafayette Hotel.

Thanks,
Kevin

If you have some wheels, go to Deanies in Bucktown. They might even have one downtown, but I've never been to that one. If you have a load of cash and want a really excellent meal, go to Commander's Palace. Another nice place to eat is the Camellia Grill, get the pecan waffles. In the French Quarter go to Cafe' DuMonde for great coffee and beignets. This is right across from Jackson Square.

John

There are loads of excellent restaurants in New Orleans.

My friends Craig & Kim run a place called J'Anita's at 1735 St. Charles Ave. GREAT FOOD!!!!! Tell 'em "Don the traffic guy" sent you.

I think the mufaletta at Central Grocery is way overrated. Take a little trip over the river to Mo's Pizza and try theirs. Best in the city IMO. 1112 Ave. H in Westwego. http://www.mospizza.net/

Voodoo BBQ, 1501 St. Charles Ave. Very good! http://www.voodoobbqandgrill.com/

Ugly Dog Saloon, 401 Andrew Higgins Blvd. Great burgers & brisket. http://www.uglydogsaloon.net/

Hard to go wrong eating anywhere in New Orleans. I work in the CBD on Howard Ave. Voodoo and Ugly Dog are some of my lunch faves. If you don't want to eat alone send me a PM.
