I wonder what the maximum speed is? Also the range at speed.

I've had a Segway since they were launched (got as a gift) and its fun but mostly for the "wow factor". Pretty much everyone who visits rides it for a few minutes, otherwise it sits in the garage for months at a time. Shoshana won't ride it to school (too geeky). Most places you can ride the Segway you should walk.
