:? Does anyone have expertise in power inverters for use with laptops? Plan on using the laptop (19.5 VDC) to downlaod/view photos. Need to be able to charge the battery while underway? Is this a good idea? Can the alternator handle the load? Will this harm the laptop? :?:
Thanks,

Inverter

I used one several times on my department issued Gateway laptop. When they bought the new Gateway laptop they bought Gateway's DC adaptor. The inverter worked just fine. It was a 140 watt Vantec.

I use the cheapest one that was available a few years ago. I use it to power the IBM 233mhz running my gps, as the battery won't hold a charge. It also runs the speakers, and charges two camera's without any probs.

I've used a Wagam 120V/500 Watt inverter on numerous car trips to
power a laptop for my kids to watch DVDs. Tried the smaller one and it
would drop out with an over-voltage, would not charge the laptop battery
but would keep up if the battery was fully charged. The laptop power
supply will tell you how many watts it draws, read carefully.

The Honda power point for the left pocket is rated for a max of 3 Amps,
at 12 Volts so it's 36 watts. It also has an in-line fuse that's 3 Amps.
