I have seen several threads on camera systems for our bikes to record possible events. And while I think thats a reasonable idea, a recent event had me thinking it would be nice to be more pro-active.

Cars and trucks have proximity sensor systems to detect close encounters. And I have found a couple of systems made for motorcycles.

My question is, does anyone have a proximity sensor system installed on their bike and if so, has it been useful?

Any other feedback would be welcomed as well.

I've actually thought about that and wondered if in fact it would be useful on a motorcycle. While it should not take the place of actually turning your head to check before a lane change it could probably be useful in some situations. I first became aware of them when passing a car one day and saw the red light in the car's left side mirror. They are very useful to a lazy driver.

I'm not aware of such an add on security device for bikes. But there sure may be one out there.


I was at a local airport fly-in. Many pilots also ride and they asked me to park the Goldwing in front of the main hanger. Another pilot parked his Honda Mini-Trail right next to me. We called them Yogi and BooBoo!
As people cam over to look at the bikes, my brother took my fob and would hit the horn. A couple guys said..."He's even got a proximity sensor on that thing"!
So we sat back drinking beer and waiting for more victims to spoof! :grin2:

For a parked security system I know I have seen an alarm that includes a proximity alert. Can't find the link right now but do remember it. Seemed like it might be a bit too much trouble to have the alarm issue a warning when someone walks too close but never tried one.

The camera system can be set to record after an impact even if the bike is turned off.

If we are talking about alerts when riding on the road, similar to the red lights in car mirrors if they try to change lanes but there isn't enough room, Muth does have such an animal. I have one my ST1300. Its by Scorpio and yes, if someone walks to close to the bike the bike will "chirp" but the alarm will not be activated unless they hang around for maybe 10 or 15 seconds. I forget the actual timing.

Since you have the parked alarm already, safe to conclude you were looking for the radar lane change alerts? I like the idea as well. Just couldn't pull the trigger (yet).
