I didn't realize Arches required a timed entry pass until I pulled up at the gate. VERY thankful the lady let me slip through without a pass as they were already sold out for the day. (It may have helped that I had the America The Beautiful Access pass, not sure)
Arches has had a pass system for at least a couple of years now, and even that doesn't mean you'll get right in. In 2002, my group all had passes, and we just rode on by, as the lines to get in were long and not moving. Been there a couple of times, not waiting in the sun and gear to get in...
 
It seems I’ve been at the entrance of some park waiting in line and they were holding people from entering until someone exited … they apparently decided they were at capacity. It seems like it was crater lake last year but not sure.
Yeah, I'm sure that's what it was, otherwise, everyone that had a ticket for that time should be able to enter at that time. The post-COVID effect on the national parks never really went away.
