I am mounting my Escort 8500 on a Cycle Gadget ball and post. I have used the industrial velcro that was sent with it and would like to know if anyone has had experience mounting it that way and is there a problem with it coming off. I do not see a place on the 8500 to mount a securing strap so the velcro is the only thing holding it on.

No strap

I've ridden some 25k miles using the RAM mount and the velcro. No problem at all. Not much wind hits it so not much in the way of forces. I use a Kennedy Dualset for my detector and SPIII.

I have been using the very same mounting system with my Solo 2, which has an almost identical footprint to the 8500. It is very secure. Windshield protects it from direct wind blast. I have it mounted on the top ball of a RAM EZ Mount, using the standard length (medium) RAM arm, and a round plate. Industrial velcro on plate and bottom of Solo. No tether (except audio plug to Kennedy RadarSet). Ride w/o fear.

I use the same setup - Ram ball and Velcro mount for the 8500 but I have a sefety strap- JUST in Case. I took a short piece of metal banding strapping, the kind that wraps around a palet of lumber, etc., and cut a slot in it with a Dremel. This fits into the car mount slot. The metal band is about 1.5 inches long with a little bend in it and a hole for a lanyard. Just push the mounting button and slide it in and out. I have the lanyard attached near the right brake. Just extra piece of mind.

Like the others, I too mount the 8500 on a ram mount -- flat using the velcro. In addition, I picked up a thin velcro loop strap that I place around the 8500 and the mount as additional safety. Never had a problem.
