Would Hillbilly Hotdogs work for ya? Think we've had one there before and can do it again.........In warmer weather. LOL

Hillbilly hotdogs will work because if Bullet Bob's cholesterol level gets too low, he gets cranky. Or cranky ER.

It's 2+hrs one way to Ironton for me, I just said Ironton off the top of my head as someplace in Ohio yet closer to me lol.
I'm down to ride all day but it's an 8+hr round trip to the Capricorn for me. Not including stops or the lunch itself, and that's all interstate riding....blah.
Just a little far for me.
Also I'm on my VTX these days as I have yet to get the Wing back together, it still has a coolant pressure leak.

Foods terrible and expensive but I would be happy to come for the company :)
I wasn't trying to get you guys to change your plans, was just poking some fun and participating in the post is all.

Fulcrum jump in anytime! Wasn't planning to change this RTE but a future RTE to HBH might come about.

And poke fun anytime.

What year GW with a leak?

I had a 2004 GW that developed a leak that I had to fix. It was under the gas tank and I had to pull the tank. Under the tank as you might already know is a "nest" of coolant lines with each have a clamp. There are several under there. I tightened them all and it fixed my leak. One clamp you can tighten going in beside the shifter without pulling any plastic. I was not lucky enough for may leak to be that one.

As has been said. Might want to dress up that negative connection area under the tank if you go in there. It can get corroded and lose ground on bumps etc.

Good luck!

My wing is a 2007
Tire Wheel Fuel tank Vehicle Automotive fuel system

Yeah...Im pretty deep down the searching for leaks rabbit hole lol
Working on bikes has always been another aspect of the motorcycle life I enjoy, almost as much as the riding but honestly I put the project on the back burner at the beginning of this past riding season as it was starting to not be fun anymore.
My intention is to get back into it this off season. Had some travelling to do and some other projects to take care of first..
Just put a new Clutch in the VTX etc..

WOW! farthest I've ever torn into mine was just short of that. Never had the tank off.
I'm afraid if I didn't get right back on that thing, I'd forget where things go, and the sequence of things. Good luck sir!

Thanks, i'm not too worried, I've had it apart multiple times in the past for various things just not all at once like this...tank out to replace rear shock, front end apart to rebuild the forks and put bearings in the neck etc..
Sorry, I didn't mean to hijack the thread

That doesn't look like fun at all. I believe there are 24 separate coolant hoses. So that makes 48 clamps. We have a guy up here, that's a retired auto mechanic, that replaced all his hoses on one of his wings. He said, if he had to do it over again he'd trade it off. So, it's not a job for the faint of heart.

I like working on bikes also. As I age I found I don't like working on them as much. I never really liked working on the wing. :) With all the plastic and everything is so tight, it makes working on it a pain. Working on the Wing is like working on a Civic...... that's been crushed. Only good thing is I worked on Wings enough, that I can breathe through it now. 😋

Wow, when I saw TROY I thought you was talking about Troy, Alabama home of the Kimber Arms Manufacturing Company. Ohio is a little out of my riding range in your Winter time.

Ive replaced about 2/3rds of the hoses as well as the radiator cap, radiator cap neck, the innards of the coolant recovery tank and probably a bunch of stuff im not remembering at the moment.
Your right it hasn't been any fun lol.
When pressurized with the test rig it still loses like 1lb +/- over a 4 hour test and 3-5 lb's +/- over a 24 hour test. Those are rough figures as I haven't done the test in a couple months and my memory may be off but that illustrates what's happening anyway.
I'm considering making a testing fuel cell (pump etc) that I can use to start and run the bike without the fuel tank in it so I have the best view possible of the hoses and then run some fluorescent dye through it and see if that helps find the leak.
Thankfully the VTX1800c never lets me down and I've been able to keep riding while working on this..

Ick.
Sounds like you are the right track. I wonder if a guy could extend the fuel line and extend the power to the pump, so you don't have to come up with a separate fuel cell. Just a thought.

The VTX was a great bike. I've rode a 1800 once. Almost bought one back before I bought my wing, from a guy I know. There's a rally called the Midwest Motorcycle Rally in Winona, MN. I been to it the last four years now. It started out almost 20 years ago as a VTX rally. A lot of the original guys are on HD or Indians now. There's several VTXs left still. I look forward to seeing them every time I go.

Anyways I hope you guys have decent weather for your RTE. It'll be awhile until I dare to ride, here. This time of year, I live vicariously through you guys down south. :)
