Rust on Mufflers

I just purchased an 05 Wing and it is pretty clean. I noticed fine rust bumps while washing it this morning. It is tough to see from any distance, but you can feel them when running your hand over the entire length of the muffler.

I was wondering it chrome polish would take that out.....or maybe very fine 1500 wet/dry sandpaper. Or how about polishing compound? How sure how to proceed.

Thoughts or suggestions?

An extra fine steel wool or Navel Jelly (rust remover) is what I would use.

0000 steel wool, then follow up with a good metal polish (I use Bom's Away).

All the chrome on my bike looked tarnished and dull (including the chromed plastic) from being stored outside before I bought it. Cleaned up perfect with the wool and polish.
