Just a comment. I have my IPOD and SATELITE XM running thru the Kennedy Technologies harness, and they have checked it out. TO ME, the sound quality of the SATELITE Vs the Ipod is not the same. The IPOD sounds much clearer, closer to CD sound but the SATELITE is more convient. JMHO

I'm so pleased with the 60GB Ipod I removed my Sirius radio and the sound is fantastic. Ride safe!

I agree, iPod sounds better, XM gets more play because of ease of use. Still like having both.

Yeah, IPOD's should sound better. MP3's are encoded at a higher quality than XM.

Everyone may not agree but here goes. I have an XM Roady 2 and an mp3 player. Both have more music than I can listen to in one day but the mp3 player does not cost 7 to 12 dollars a month. When my current contract expires with XM I am not going to renew. If I miss it I will renew at a later date. If I don't miss it then I have a few more dollars to spend on crush washers.

Satellite radio signal gets compressed. they need to do that to send it to all those radio's. It's not going to be as good as mp3 or FM for that matter. It's not as bassy but is supposed be higher fidelity. I'm sure I understand that part. Heard that from the Sirius Tech Support group.

Personaly, I won't pay for radio or TV, I believe those things should be free. With digital off air TV signals and HD signals my TV looks better than most of the channels look with cable that my friends have, so I will never pay for TV.....I can't see myself ever paying for radio either, but I am curious, with the satellite radio can you listen to the same music station no matter how far you travel? Does it work even in the mountains? Are the music stations always clear without ever any static?

Yes, Yes, and Yes....

You can travel from Florida to California and never change the station. The only time you loose signal is when you loose line of sight to the satellites. Such as when going into a parking garage or though a tunnel. Never static, with digital it's either there or it's not. And with Satellite radio I hear stuff that there would be no way for me to hear any other way. I can hear the exact genre of music I want and I absolutley love the comedy channels.

YES! it works in the mountains and you can listen to the same channel all across the country. The best part is there are NO commercials! We all have a car so we wont be missing out on any "spectacular sale" at the local car lot anyway! If you go into a parking garage or sometimes in certain areas in the mountains for a few seconds, you will momentairly loose the signal - the channel fades to mute for a second or maybe two but there is never any static. It works off satelites similar to GPS so a clear view of the sky is all that is needed for reception. You can pay a few extra dollars a month for "streaming" capability which would prevent this from happening at all. This basically delays the signal inside your receiver and stores a few extra seconds of the broadcast just in case of poor signal reception.

My Creative ZEN Vision:M MP3 Player holds up to 30 Gigs of music and video and we have about 5000 songs on there and we prefer this over the Satelite as we can make our own playlist and control the player via the wired remote... The player is $300 up front but no monthly fees. We have XM radio on a Roady2 in my wifes car and sometimes we hook that thing up to the Goldwing but the MP3 setup is preferred!

Never thought I would pay for satelite radio either, but now I can't see being without it, and I don't have to be because I got the $499 lifetime subscription. Never pay another bill! Thats almost free.....kinda.... anyway I chose Sirius for that reason and others. they have a patent on technology that will double the amount of channels in their alloted bandwith. They just paid Stern 8 Million dollars. On their 80's channels are all the original MTV VJ's, and so forth and so on. The reception is great in all but the most dense trees, and in the big cities, their signal is suplimented with terrestrial boosters. Don't let me or anyone else sell you on one or the other. Check into both of them for yourself and you decide. Bottom line is either one is worth the money! IMHO!

XM keeps adding more channels. I wonder if they are compressing them more to stay within their alloted bandwidth. That may be where we are losing audio quality.

I also prefer the IPOD going down the road. But my XM, when not on the bike, goes all day in my shop. XM sounds pretty good on the boom box.
