Seat maker moving to Destination Daytona
A Canadian company that makes seats and other accessories for motorcycles is moving to Destination Daytona, an Ormond Beach Mecca for bikers.
Ultimate Seats USA, an arm of Toronto-based Ultimate Seat Co., will open at 348 Destination Daytona Lane. A grand opening is scheduled for Feb. 27, said company founder and president Des Hockley.
"We hope to be operational before Bike Week, which starts Feb. 26," Hockley said Monday by phone from his Toronto office. "The (Destination) Daytona facility will be retail with an installation facility and a warehouse for shipping. There may be a little manufacturing later for custom orders."
In December, the Volusia County Council approved a $9,000 local match toward a $45,000 state grant to support the company's move, with an understanding Ultimate Seats will create 15 new jobs. A county memo said it will move one senior employee to the new store and hire other workers locally, paying average annual wages in excess of $34,568 within two years.
Hockley said he plans to have "six or seven" employees in the first year.
