Now that Honda has apparently dumped the GPS NAV unit, does anyone think there will be any further updates for the 18-24 units?
Personally, I doubt it. Why would they?

I don't use it, but did hope for a revamp, or at least a new mapset.
Good thing that there are many other options.
I really like MyRoute App. Both the planner and their app via Apple CarPlay

How would one update it? At the dealership with a USB? I have a 2024 but expect its the 2018 maps but became curious about how updates were made.
Thanks, John

The 18 map was updated about 2 years(?) ago so I would think you have the newest version for whatever that's worth. I do like the little speed limit sign that showed up after the update.

I did not even notice there was no nav on the 2025's. I was getting tired of the very slow web response (they must be getting hammered) and did not go looking for things that may have changed. I never use mine for routing, but I do like the "you are here" easy view map display. I guess they are expecting phone control to be your routing software. Just that I don't pair my phone to the bike, I get much more use paired to my Zumo. But what does that matter to me since I will not be getting a 2025 anyway.

Where does it say there is no navigation?

from the website:

Navigation
Every model is equipped with a big, bright, seven-inch, full-color TFT LCD screen to display routes and other navigation information. Plus, since it’s equipped with a gyrocompass, the system even functions inside a tunnel.
Standard on: all trims

To me that says it has navigation on every model.

NEW FOR 2025

  • New colors for all trim levels.
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto can now be used wirelessly on all Gold Wing versions.
  • Given the widespread adoption of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the Gold Wing's native navigation system has been eliminated for 2025.
  • "Since 1975" has been added to the Gold Wing logo that appears at the meter's "opening ceremonies" when the bike is turned on.
  • On standard versions, a Gold Wing logo across the saddlebags and side fairings adds a bold styling treatment.
  • A special 50th Anniversary badge is situated in front of the seat and on the Smart Key, commemorating the Gold Wing's important milestone (on all versions except for Light Silver Metallic).
  • For model-year 2025, all Gold Wing versions in Eternal Gold, Bourdeaux Red Metallic and Matte Black Metallic (not Light Silver Metallic) come with two free commemorative gifts: a coffee-table book and a tabletop 3D 1:12 scale model. The model features a 1975 Gold Wing on one side and a 2025 Gold Wing on the other side.

I use the Goldwing navigation all the time. I plan routes (usually fun day loops at a destination) on the Harley Davidson Ride Planner website. I've also used Myrouteapp.com to plan routes, but the Harley one seems a little simpler. I've found it works great as long as you put in enough way points (dragging the road over and then putting it back puts a point on the route that the bike will go through). I've actually been very happy with it. Then save it to a thumbdrive and plug into the bike. It's very easy after doing it once.

I would guess software changes only........
Would be nice if that was true they offered it to prior owners. I'd load it in a heartbeat.......the stock GPS is worthless to me and wireless ACP would be nice.

This is a picture link from the 2025 GW website that describes the Navigation system.

"Every model is equipped with a big, bright, seven-inch, full-color TFT LCD screen to display routes and other navigation information. Plus, since it’s equipped with a gyrocompass, the system even functions inside a tunnel."

This Navigation screen does not look like the OEM Navi. lt looks like either AA or ACP. So yes there's still the TFT LCD screen but maybe not an OEM Navi. Honda's website is ambiguous in its description of the Navi system. Doesn't matter to me. I'm very happy with my 2018.

I don't use Android Auto much, so am not very familiar with it. Is it possible to plan routes through some feature of Android Auto? If so, can those routes be used to navigate if one doesn't have a data plan on their phone? Lastly, what is the benefit of wireless Android Auto vs wired Android Auto?

Thank you for any help in demystifying this.

Regardless of the date of the last navigation update, the maps that are used are terribly out of date . The streets in the area around my house in Az are not even shown on the map. That development is at least 7 years old.

Having a built in Nav system means if I forget, loose, or damage my phone while traveling, I still have a Nav system I can use. I don't see how removing it saves Honda any money, it's already built into the current audio unit. I bet they just disabled it in the firmware. I'm not sure I understand their logic for getting rid of it.

No more daily inquiries about when the next update is coming. It'll probably save them a ton right there. And then not having to work on and distribute map updates. Getting out of that game completely will save them a lot.

With all the complaints about it they probably didn't anticipate complaints about removing it. 🤣

That was a joke. No matter what they do, there will be complainers.
