I will be hanging out in Ohio all weekend (Mt Vernon) buy willing to drive anywhere (rental car - not mine!) for something to do other than sitting in a hotel.

KW,
If you don't mind a short (1 1/2) drive, go over to Dayton on I70 west and hit the Museum of the United States Air Force. 3 large buldings + the Annex with the Presidential aircraft. By the way, its free.... Takes about 4 to 6 hours to make a quick look at the aircraft.

Ashtabula County has 17 covered bridges, including the biggest in the US. It's also situated on Lake Erie, so there is some good "people" watching places to sit and watch the world go by

Lots of good suggestions already. Other options:

the Wilds. http://www.thewilds.org/

Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum

Bass Pro Shops

Loudonville area. Mohican State Park. If you like fly fishing they have a stretch of river that would give you some time to try your luck for trout. It is near the covered bridge in the park. Ohio fishing license required.

Sports car racing at Mid Ohio raceway.

Lake Erie shoreline.
Head up to Oak Harbor then go east on OH 163 through Port Clinton. Then hit Rt 53 up around Catawba Island then back on 163 to follow the lake around Marblehead. Then take Rt 2 east towards Sandusky and head for the shoreline on Rt 6. Take Rt 6 all the way through Lorain. Vermilion is a really neat town with the Vermilion river and draw bridge. Lorain has places to get close to the water and on the east end of town there are lots of large, old nice homes. From there head back to Mt. Vernon. I would suggest doubling back to Rt 58 south in Lorain. Head south through Wellington (more nicely maintained old homes on the south end of town) then take Rt 89 south to Mohicanville where you will hit Rt 95 west to Fredericktown then Rt 13 south into Mt Vernon.

Lots of good suggestions.... (I'm in Vermilion BTW. Largest small boat harbor on the Great Lakes. But sorry, no draw bridge. That's in Lorain or Port Clinton).

You could also go up to Sandusky or Port Clinton and take the Jet Express over to Put In Bay to party a bit.

So.... I hiked the Mohican Forest, went all over the Amish areas such as millersburg, sugar creek, some place with lots of cheese, saw the longest covered bridge, ate at some busy restaurant called Mrs Yoders. Also went down to see the museum at the Air Force base by Dayton.

Now I'm back in Mt Vernon! Resting with an empty tank of gas.

Word of warning!!.... Stay off 36 east of Mt Vernon tomorrow, I77 Tuesday between 36 and I70, and WAAAYYYY away from I70 east of I77 on Wednesday. This superload is going to be a traffic nightmare.

Thanks for heads up. Now you have caught my curiosity. What kind of superload? Hopefully you will be off I70/PA turnpike by Friday when we head East.
