Ok...going to try to describe this sound...

Engine warm (normal op temp) accellerate from 35 to 70mph moderate to fast accelleration....The sound does not occur if you pull in the clutch and rev the engine...thus something in the clutch / transmission...?

It sounds very simular to a furnace heat exchanger crackeling when the furnace burner ignites and the exchangers heats up....

...my first thoughts was the exhaust heating up...by why do I not hear it while reving the engine...

Bike runs fine...but very enoying....any thoughts....?

My e-crystal ball may be too cloudy today; but could it be wind buffeting upon a loose body component? Maybe a heat sheild is loose at cats or at the rear brake/tire area.

Any chance we are talking about spark knock (pinging).??? Try a tank of high octane and see if you still get the same sound...
