Wewing,
I had the same problem on my '01. The price quoted to replace the instrument cluster was $700 Can.
I repaired the speedo by gluing down the thin face which buckles up in sunlight. I used some form of crazy glue, working it under the face with a kitchen knife. That was the easy part. The hard part is getting to the speedo. The front fairing has to come off; actually you can get at the instrument panel nuts by working the fairing forward without completely disconnecting it. It's a lot of work, but if you have the manual and just go step by step it's not all that difficult.
Good luck!

I have a new speedometer which is in miles, and therefore no use to me. If you want it you can have it for nothing. Just let me have your address.

Thanks Praline, I sent you a PM with my address, but I just thought of something, is your speedo for an ABS equipped bike?

Thanks for the link, I went ahead and printed out the service bulletin, but as far as the part is concerned, it looks like praline has me hooked up with the 37200-MCA-971. This forum is great. :D

Here in Oz, anyone that had a sticking speedo due to the sun was replaced free of charge - the new one has a longer spindle for the needle
