I was wondering if anyone had a good method to remove shoe stain from hot chrome pipe- boot got a little too close to pipe and melted a stain the size of a quarter- I don't want to harm chrome finish- any ideas much appreciated- someone suggested steel wool -???

Someone else suggested Oven Cleaner when pipe is warm.

I can't vouch for that - but it sounds reasonable.

I'd stay away from the steel wool myself.

Get your pipes warm/hot. Spray a little oven cleaner on rag and wipe. Might have to remove a few layers, but it works fine. Try to avoid steel wool or alum polish.

Most chrome cleaners are fine abrasive pastes applied to the same spot over and over again one csn easily go through the plating.

I have heard the the oven cleaner works good from my buddies who still own a BMW R1200C. I used to use a brand new razor blade to scrape the boot markings off. Never managed to damage the finish but have seen others who did so it is probably risky.
