Lately when I hit the starter switch the starter very briefly engages - then nothing. I then hit the switch a second time and the bike starts up just fine. Is a problem developing with the starter switch ? Opinions ? Battery is only four months old. 02 Wing with 54,000 miles. Thanks !

There have been a rash of starter relay failures. I replaced both my A dn B relays at 100K miles just so I wouldn't have a problem with them in the future and I disected one to look at it. I have photos of it on my web site.

The problem many have had is that they hang and stick on. I suspect the reason is that the spring in them gets weak, as the spring normally holds the contacts open, and if the spring looses tension, the starter will engage.

I have also heard of one person who had a bad starter switch in the handlebars.
